Wanted Man

On 5/4/25 at approx. 10:30AM, Westlake Police officers stopped a vehicle on Crocker at Detroit for a license plate violation. The passenger in the car was found to be wanted out of the State of Virginia for a probation violation stemming from prior weapons offenses. The 38yo Columbus male was arrested and transported to the county jail to await extradition. The driver was advised and sent on her way.

Teaching about Safety

On 5/4/25 at about 4PM, officers noticed a man jaywalking across Crocker Rd in front of the Wyndham Garden Inn. They stopped to talk to him about safety and learned that the violator had felony warrants for Grand Theft, OVI and possession of a controlled substance. The 36yo Cleveland male was arrested. He was turned over to Medina County Deputies on their warrants.

WWII Ordnance Found

On 5/5/25 at approx. 8:20AM, the Westlake Fire Dept received an email from a concerned citizen reporting that they had found what they believed was an “old WW2 grenade and 2 anti-aircraft shells” in the basement of a home they had recently purchased. Officials immediately emailed back imploring the resident not to touch the ordinance. The Fire Department looped the Westlake PD/Westshore Bomb unit into the correspondence. Once officers made phone contact with the resident and learned where they lived, the bomb squad was dispatched. The items, identified as two US WWII MK2 HE projectiles as well as a Japanese hand grenade, were X-rayed on scene and examined. No explosive hazards were found. The resident turned them over to the officers who will dispose of them.

His Brother Did It

On 5/6/25 at about 1:30PM, officers received a FLOCK license plate reader hit on a vehicle in the area of Crocker Park. The Honda Accord had been involved in a vehicle pursuit with Parma PD recently and that agency was looking to identify the violator. Westlake officers located the vehicle on Crocker at Union St. The car did yield to the officers’ traffic stop. The operator, a 23yo Cleveland man, claimed to have no knowledge of the Parma police pursuit and said he was borrowing his brother’s car. Unfortunately for him, he had a suspended license and an active traffic warrant out of Brookpark PD. Additionally, he was in possession of a baggie of suspected crack cocaine. He also blamed the felony drug violation on his younger brother. The driver was arrested and charged with possession of the narcotics as well as driving under suspension. The vehicle was turned over to Parma PD for their investigation.

Dazed Driver

On 5/9/25 at approx. 8AM WPD officers responded to the report of a motor vehicle crash in the area of Detroit and Cahoon Rds. No injuries were reported. While the officers investigated, they noticed that the man driving the vehicle that struck the other from behind appeared to be in a “daze.” The 32yo Medina male also had a felony burglary warrant out of Parma PD. While being arrested for the warrant, investigators located an Adderall pill as well as what was described as a Kratom capsule on the suspect. An open, cold can of Voodoo Ranger IPA was observed in his center cup holder. The man was field tested and arrested for OVI. The suspect was cited with expired plates, OVI, failure to maintain assured clear distance and open container. Additional charges may be filed pending lab results.

Bar Fight

On 5/10/25 at about 1AM, officers responded to Dover Gardens Bar for a reported assault. The 2 men involved were on scene when officers arrived. Apparently, the men had gotten into a verbal altercation inside the bar over interest in a female. The verbal jousting escalated when a 47yo Westlake man struck the 45yo Avon victim in the face. Alcohol did play a role in this incident. The Westlake man was arrested and charged with misdemeanor assault.

Out of Gas

On May 5, 2025 at 07:08 am, a resident reported a suspicious vehicle parked off the roadway near Bradley/Wolf with someone sleeping behind the wheel. Bay Village Police responded and spoke with the driver. The driver ran out of gas while door-dashing. The driver was also showing a suspended license, so his vehicle was towed. The driver was given a courtesy ride to the BVPD to make arrangements for a ride.

Dog Bite

On May 5, 2025 at 4:25 pm, a resident and their child responded to BVPD to report an animal bite. The juvenile was riding his bike on the 24000 block of Knickerbocker when he was bitten by a dog. Police followed up and spoke with the dog owner. It was discovered the owner’s juvenile children were walking the dog at the time. The two kids were unable to control the dog when it went after the juvenile on the bike. The 42-year-old Bay Village resident was issued a citation for dog at large. The owner will be facing charges through Rocky River Municipal Court.

Impaired Drive

On May 6, 2025, at 7:18 pm, a caller reported a possible impaired driver near Lake/Cahoon. Bay Village units responded and attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle. The vehicle was observed to be all over the roadway and took several blocks before stopping. Upon speaking with the driver, it was suspected they were under the influence. The driver submitted to standardized field sobriety testing and was subsequently arrested for OVI. The male was brought back to BVPD jail. The driver refused to provide a breath sample. The male was released to a sober adult. The 47-year-old Avon Lake resident was charged with OVI, OVI refusal, driving in a weaving course and marked lanes. He will be facing charges through Rocky River Municipal Court.

Homeless

On May 7, 2025 at 08:53 am, a resident on Lake Park contacted BVPD to report that while out with her dog, an unknown female walked up to her and asked for food. When the resident told her no, she began to yell/swear at the resident. BVPD responded and located the female in the area. The female denied the claims from the caller and admitted to being homeless and wanting to continue walking west.

Solicitor Citation

On May 9, 2025 at 6:00pm, a resident on Ednil reported solicitors in the area. BVPD responded and located the two solicitors. The two individuals were issued a citation for soliciting.

Aggressive Male

On May 9, 2025 at 7:55 pm, a female contacted 911 reporting an aggressive male following her at Bradley Park. BVPD arrived and located the female and her small child. The caller advised BVPD there was a small 4-year-old child on the playground with no adult in close proximity for some time. Two middle school age girls came to the playground and began to pick on the small child. The girls were trying to get the 4-year-old to stand on top of the play set so she could fall. At this time, she grew concerned and began to walk over to the tennis courts to ask if anyone knew this little girl. An adult male stated he did. When she attempted to explain the situation, the male closed the distance on her and began using foul language. The caller grabbed her small child to get away from the male. BVPD toured the area, but the male and his three children were unable to be located.

Rear Window Broken

On May 10, 2025 at 1:00pm, a resident on Knickerbocker/Forest reported his vehicle’s rear window was broken. The resident stated nothing in the vehicle was disturbed. BVPD responded and took an incident report.

Stolen Phone

On May 10, 2025 at 10:11 pm, a resident responded to BVPD to report her son’s cell phone was stolen while playing soccer at the high school. A report was taken and when pinged, it appeared as if the phone was in Avon Lake. Bay Village Detectives are investigating.
