In Memory of Joe Lazar

In memory of Joe Lazar and as a thank you for his service to the City of Westlake, The Westlake City Schools and the Police Department as a School Crossing Guard, Westlake Police officers met at Joe’s post on the corner of Dover Center and Hilliard Blvd. on the afternoon of Sunday Oct. 19. At 2:15 p.m. there was moment of silence, a few words about the dedication and kindness Joe exhibited every day, and then a police procession to Busch Funeral Home in Avon to attend Joe’s memorial visitation. The procession left the corner at 2:30 p.m. and drove west on Hilliard to Bradley then north on Bradley and west on Detroit Rd before ending at Busch Funeral home: 32000 Detroit Rd in the city of Avon. The public was encouraged to line the streets in remembrance of Joe who was tragically struck by a vehicle while performing his duties.

WPD School Resource Officers were on hand at the funeral home to honor Joe and to greet guests as they arrived.

Joe Lazar’s family and friends indicated that memorial contributions are suggested to the Western Cuyahoga FOP Lodge #25, PO Box 45146, Westlake, OH 44145
