Westlake Porter Public Library’s December Calendar of Events

Following is Westlake Porter Public Library’s December 2025 calendar of events. All programs are subject to change. Please check westlakelibrary.org or follow the library on Facebook and Instagram (@WestlakePorter) for the latest updates.

Monday, December 1 (11-11:45 a.m.) Adult Stories and Crafts – Adults with disabilities are invited to laugh, sing and listen to stories, along with a craft or a coloring page. Registration begins November 24.

Mondays, December 1, 8 and 15 (3-5 p.m.) Teen Lounge – Need a place to hang after school? Come to WPPL’s Teen Lounge on Monday afternoons. Enjoy some video games, board games, snacks and more. No registration required. Grades 7-12.

Tuesday, December 2 (2-3 p.m.) Virtual Author Talk: Sue Hincenbergs, “The Retirement Plan” – Buckle up for a wild ride and join us as we sit down for an online chat with debut author Sue Hincenbergs to discuss her novel “The Retirement Plan,” in which murder is the name of the game. Please register.

Tuesday, December 2 (6-7:30 p.m.) and Sunday, December 7 (2-3:30 p.m.) Makerspace Foundations: CNC Orientation – Attend an orientation to learn the basics of using the CNC router and become a verified user of the machine. Registration begins one week before each session.

Tuesday, December 2 (6-8:30 p.m.) Heartsaver CPR/AED – University Hospitals – Get certified for adult, child, and infant CPR and AED. Email account required. Class led by certified instructors from UH St. John Medical Center. Please register – class size is limited.

Tuesday, December 2 (6:30-8 p.m.) Holiday Wreath – Celebrate the holidays by making a beautiful holiday wreath with a bow using artificial greens and trimmings. Registration begins November 25.

Tuesday, December 2 (7–8:30 p.m.) World at War Forum: Guadalcanal Campaign – Naval Operations – While American Marines slugged it out with the Japanese on land, the American Navy fought the Japanese on the high seas. Steve Pettyjohn will describe naval operations around the island in 1943. Please register.

Wednesday December 3 (10:30-11:15 a.m.) and Thursday, December 4 (1:30-2:15 p.m.) Adapted Storytime – Join us for this storytime designed for children who may not be successful in a typical storytime. Content is geared toward ages 3-7. Registration begins one week before each session.

Wednesday, December 3 (3-5 p.m.) Teen Crafternoon – One Wednesday of each month stop by and enjoy a calming afternoon of crafting. Grades 5-12. No registration required.

Wednesday, December 3 (6:30-8:30 p.m.) Horror Film Club – Join us for another creepy classic from the Vault! New members are welcome, but children under 13 must be with an adult. Please register.

Wednesday, December 3 (7-7:30 p.m.) and Saturdays, December 6 and 20 (10:30-11 a.m.) Family Storytime – Join us for rhymes, songs and play! Ages 2-6 with a caregiver. No registration required.

Wednesday, December 3 (7-8:30 p.m.) Trivia Night: Freezin’ Season – How much do you know about winter holidays, sports, and traditions? Register solo or in teams of 2-5. Prizes will be awarded to the winning team.

Thursday, December 4 (1-7 p.m.) American Red Cross Bloodmobile – Please give blood with the American Red Cross Bloodmobile.

Thursday, December 4 (6:30-8 p.m.) Picky Eater… or Something More? Presented by The Star Center Foundation – Understand the difference between a typical picky eater and a true problem feeder by learning red flags to watch for, when to seek help, and how to move forward with confidence. Registration begins November 26.

Saturdays, December 6 (2-2:30 p.m.) Read It, Make It @ the Library – We will read one story then make a craft based on the story. No registration required. Ages 4-7 with a caregiver, siblings welcome.

Sunday, December 7 (2-4 p.m.) You and Me Repair Fair – Bring at least one piece of clothing or a soft toy that needs to be repaired and learn basic sewing techniques to extend the life of your favorite clothes and toys! Registration begins November 30. Grades 3-5 with an adult.

Monday, December 8 (9 a.m.-9 p.m.) Delightful December Craft Kit Pickup – Celebrate December with some fun crafts. Space is limited. Registration required. Kits are available until Sunday, December 14 unless other arrangements are made. Crafts recommended for ages 3-7. Registration begins December 1.

Wednesday, November 12 (3:30-5 p.m.) After School in the ‘Space – Tweens and teens are welcome in the Makerspace to create a project with the Makerspace equipment! Participants must have a signed user agreement from a parent or guardian on file. For ages 11-15. Registration begins November 5.

Monday, December 8 (10:30-11 a.m.) Little Yogis – Stretch, breathe, and move through fun poses that build balance, focus, and joy in this yoga session for children up to age 5 with a caregiver. Please bring a yoga mat or towel. Ages 0-5. Presented by certified yoga instructor Jen Nebraska. Registration begins December 1.

Monday, December 8 (4:30-5:15 p.m.) Tinkering with Tinkercad – Explore 3D design with Tinkercad! Learn the basics, start a project, and return to the Makerspace later to finish. No printing during the session. Grades 3-6. Registration begins December 1.

Monday, December 8 (7-8 p.m.) Earth “kind” Meetup Group – Meet with other veg/plant-based- curious individuals to discover new flavors, new foods and more ways to be kind to yourselves and to our earth. This group will meet most months on the second Monday of the month. Various topics will be discussed. No registration required.

Tuesday, December 9 (10-11 a.m.) The Classic Radio Hour: Gangbusters (1935) – Did you listen to these classic radio programs when they aired? Or are you new to the medium? Either way, we hope you’ll tune in for a trip down Memory Lane. Please register.

Tuesday, December 9 (2-3:30 p.m.) Food Gifts for the Holidays – Learn about wonderful food gift recipes, where to buy supplies, how to wrap and ways to present your food gifts for the holidays. Registration begins December 2

Tuesday, December 9 (4:30-5:15 p.m.) Make Your Own Northern Lights – Paint a glow-in-the-dark jar to look like the northern lights. Grades 2-4. Registration begins December 2.

Tuesday, December 9 (6-8 p.m.) DIY Wall Calendars – Get ready for the new year by making your very own custom wall calendar! In this program, participants will be guided through the process of customizing their calendars with photos of their choice before learning how to use the book binder in the Makerspace to put them together. Registration begins December 2.

Tuesday, December 9 (7-8 p.m.) Let’s Talk! Spanish Language Social Hour-¡Hablemos! Hora Social en Español – Meet other fluent Spanish speakers for informal conversation. Register to join.

Tuesday December 9 (7-8:30 p.m.) Tuesday Evening Book Club (In Person AND Virtual) – Join the WPPL Tuesday Evening Book Club in person or on Zoom to discuss “How to Read a Book” by Monica Wood. The discussion will be held in person and on Zoom simultaneously. Please register. If you register for the Zoom option, you will receive a Zoom invitation and instructions by email.

Wednesdays, December 10 and 17 (3-4 p.m.) Snacktivity – Who says you can’t play with your food? Drop by the Teen Lounge for a snack-related activity. Enjoy the process then eat the results. All snacks will be assembled and consumed in the Craft Room. While supplies last. Grades 5-12. No registration required.

Wednesday, December 10 (2-3 p.m.) Brick Builders – Do you love Legos©? Then bring your ideas and imagination to Brick Builders! Bricks provided. No registration is required, but room capacity is limited. First come, first served. Ages 5-12.

Wednesday, December 10 (6-7:30 p.m.) Wintry Window Clings – Do-It-Yourself decor! Imbue your windows with a personal touch of seasonal magic this winter. Register for this Makerspace class to learn about printing onto and cutting out contours of transparent window cling material with our large-format printer. Registration begins December 3.

Wednesday, December 10 (7-8:30 p.m.) Environmentalism Book Club – This month’s title is “Angry Weather” by Friederike Otto. Please register.

Tuesday, December 11 (3-4 p.m.) Tech Bytes: Android Help Session – Have quick questions about your Android device? Need help with basic features or navigation? Join our Help Session for a casual drop-in opportunity to learn and share tips! No registration required.

Thursday, December 11 (4-5 p.m.) SCAMO: Learn How To Spot Scams and Avoid Fraud – SCAMO is a fun, bingo-style game that teaches you how to spot, avoid, and report current scams. Materials and game will be provided and presented by the Cuyahoga County Department of Consumer Affairs. Please register.

Thursday, December 11 (6-7 p.m.) The Journey of Dementia: From Their Perspective – Step into the world of someone living with dementia. Learn how dementia touches thinking and memory, and how it shapes emotions, dignity, and identity. Learn how needs of communicating change. Presented by Stephanie Parker, Memory Care Director, Vitalia Westlake. Please register.

Thursday, December 11 (7-8 p.m.) Thursday Night Book Discussion – This month’s title is “Time of the Child” by Niall Williams. A limited number of copies will be available at the Circulation Desk. No registration required.

Saturday, December 13 (11-11:45 a.m.) Adapted Weekend Fun – Let’s have fun together in an interactive program especially for children who may not be successful in a typical library program. In each session we may explore toys, sensory elements, music and movement, or do a craft. This month’s theme is Seasonal Fun! For children ages 5 and up. Registration begins December 6.

Saturday, December 13 (2-4 p.m.) Make It, Take It! – Stop by Youth Services to complete a featured craft. While supplies last. No registration required. Not available for pickup at the drive-up window. PreK-grade 2.

Saturday, December 13 (2-4 p.m.) Jewelry Junction: You and Me Earring Making Program – Learn how to make three different styles of earrings using pearls, crystals, stones, charms, and findings. This program is for an adult and a teen or tween. Please register each person, starting December 6.

Saturday, December 13 (4-5:30 p.m.) Women in History Presents Rebecca Nurse and the Salem Witch Trials – In 1692 in the Massachusetts Colony, Rebecca Nurse, a young devout Puritan homemaker and mother of eight was accused of being a witch. Join us as we learn more about this tragic episode. Please register.

Sunday, December 14 (2-3:30 p.m.) Holiday Cookie Bake Off – Do you have the ultimate holiday cookie recipe? Share your edible creations and enter Westlake Porter Public Library’s 2nd Annual Ultimate Cookie Bake Off! Please register.

Monday, December 15 (9 a.m.-9 p.m.) Spice it Up! Take Home Kit: Cake Spice – Sign up for a kit containing a sample of the featured spice and a handout with background on the spice and suggested uses! Registration begins December 8. Kits can be picked up at the library drive up window from December 15–21 during business hours.

Monday, December 15 (10 a.m.-Noon and 2-4 p.m.) Westlake Porter Public Library’s 141st Anniversary – Celebrate the library’s anniversary with coffee/hot cocoa and cookies in the library.

Monday, December 15 (10-10:30 a.m.) Music Monday – Develop pre-reading skills with music, movement and rhythm through stories, songs and rhymes. Ages 2-6 with a caregiver, siblings welcome. No registration required.

Monday, December 15 (1-2 p.m.) True Crime Book Club – This month’s title is “The Road Out of Hell,” by Anthony Flacco. Please register.

Tuesday, December 16 (9:30-9:50 a.m.) Stories and Signs – Enjoy an interactive storytime while learning a few words in sign language! No registration required. Ages 0-3, siblings welcome.

Tuesday, December 16 (6-7:30p.m.) Winter Warm-up Concert with Jess Jukebox & DJ Turkey Sandwich – Back by popular demand! Jesse Jukebox and DJ Turkey Sandwich return to the Friends Pavilion for another lively dance party and concert that is sure to get everyone moving! Please register.

Tuesday, December 16 (6-8 p.m.) Craft Club – Join us at our craft club meeting! Bring a craft and hang out with members of the community. All crafts and skill levels welcome. No registration required.

Tuesday, December 16 (6:30-8 p.m.) Introduction to Microsoft Excel – Learn to navigate the Excel interface to enter and format data, perform basic calculations, and create simple charts as well as how to access resources for self-paced, online learning.

Wednesday, December 17 (2-3 p.m.) Wednesday Afternoon Book Discussion – The Wednesday Book Group meets the third Wednesday of each month. This month we’ll share a favorite book, classics or new favorites, over holiday goodies! No registration required.

Wednesday, December 17 (6:30-8 p.m.) Thinking with AI: A Practical Tour of the Future of Work – Join us for an engaging, plain-language introduction to generative AI, designed for anyone curious about how these tools actually think and what they mean for modern productivity. Please register.

Wednesday, December 17 (7–8 p.m.) Adult Creative Writing Group: Auld Lang Syne Edition – Join us for an hour of writing prompts to inspire you to keep writing. Creativity is more than putting pen to paper. It’s about breaking away and trying something new! For adults and teens age 16 and up. Please register.

Thursday, December 18 (1-1:30 p.m.) Hear Me Roar: Storytime with Strength – This cross-generational program connects patients with Parkinson’s with our community by sharing stories, songs and movement in this interactive storytime. Ages 2-6, siblings welcome. Registration begins December 11.

Tuesday, December 18 (3-4 p.m.) Tech Bytes: iPhone and iPad Help Session – Have quick questions about your iPhone or iPad? Need help with basic features or apps? Join our Help Session for a casual drop-in opportunity to learn and share tips.

Thursday, December 18 (6-7:30 p.m.) Holiday Paper Quilling Fun – Drop in to learn basic quilling techniques and make your own quilled holiday card. While supplies last!

Saturday, December 20 (1-2 p.m.) Pokémon Fun! – This will be a time to view and trade cards, do a craft, battle your librarian, or play a Pokémon Bingo game. Feel free to bring your cards!  Ages 6-11. No registration required.

Sunday, December 21 (2-3 p.m.) Come Play With Me – Open playtime for children ages 2-5 with a caring adult. Siblings welcome! No registration required.

Mondays, December 22 and 29 (10 a.m.-Noon) Indoor Recess at the Library – Too chilly or snowy to play outside? Join us at the library for a playful, active program for children in grades PreK-2 with a caregiver. Siblings welcome. No registration required.

Wednesday, December 24 and Thursday, December 25 – Library Closed for Christmas

Monday, December 29 (9 a.m.-9 p.m.) Escape Room in a Box: Snowed In – Register starting December 22 to take home an escape room in a box. Play as a group or on your own as you attempt to escape a blizzard, solve a mystery, and not get caught! Space is limited to one per family. Kits are available for pick up through Sunday, January 4. Grades 5-12.
