Good Neighbor Thrift Shop Celebrates Generous 2025 Giving

Throughout 2025, the Good Neighbor Thrift Shop in Avon Lake was able to give $460,588 back to the community, and helped provide $15,000 of in-kind giving.

Community support of the Good Neighbor Thrift Shop’s mission through donating, shopping, and volunteering allows the Thrift Shop to help those in need in the community.

Good Neighbor Thrift Shop has been serving the community since 1979.

Started by the Avon Lake United Church of Christ as a way to offer affordably priced items for those in need as well as supporting our mission partners, the shop has an amazing team of volunteers and all proceeds are donated to charities, most of which are here in Cuyahoga and Lorain Counties. For decades they have supported agencies that help those suffering from homelessness, hunger, domestic violence, battling addictions and many more worthy causes.

Donations make their work possible! They are a donation based, nonprofit thrift store accepting clothing, housewares and furniture. Thorough the generosity of donors, the shop has a deep inventory of quality items for sale at great prices. Many regulars stop by each week to see what is new.

If you have items that you would like to donate to the shop, the process is easy and convenient. The donation center is open any time the shop is open and the list of items they can accept is way longer than things they cannot. They kindly ask that all items be in good, clean, working condition. Clothing, household items, and furniture are among items accepted. You may also make cash donations to support their causes.

The Donation center is located at the back of the home store at 156 Lear Rd. in Avon Lake. Please proceed along the building and you will find signs to the left, bringing you right up to the doors.

Every year, end-of-year grants are awarded by the Avon Lake United Church of Christ in partnership with the Good Neighbor Thrift Shop. Grant awards are provided either for specific projects or as general support to organizations, focusing on work in the following areas identified as current priority concerns by Avon Lake United Church of Christ, including poverty, hunger, homelessness, refugee resettlement, domestic violence, addiction/recovery, and dementia support.
