The Bay Village Tree Conservancy is inviting Bay Village residents to participate in its annual Win-Win Program tree sale, an initiative aimed at preserving and restoring the city’s mature tree canopy. Guided by its mission to educate. preserve. restore., the organization hopes to make it simple and affordable for homeowners to plant high-quality, canopy-scale trees in their yards.
Bay Village has long been fortunate to have a lush, mature tree canopy. Towering oaks, elms, and sycamores line the streets, define neighborhoods, shade homes, and contribute to the city’s aesthetic appeal. These trees offer significant benefits, including improved air quality, stormwater management, summer cooling, wildlife habitat, and increased property values. However, many of the largest trees are approaching the end of their natural lifespan, and ongoing losses from age, disease, severe weather, and construction have created a need for restoration.
The Win-Win Program is designed to help residents address this loss while making the process convenient and cost-effective. For a flat fee of $327 per tree, homeowners can have a professionally sourced and planted tree delivered to their property. The BVTC covers the remaining cost, helping to expand the community canopy without placing the full financial burden on individual residents.
Participants can choose from a carefully curated selection of canopy trees, including White oak, Swamp white oak, and London Plane (Sycamore). Each tree is an 8–10-foot, 2.5-inch caliper balled tree—large enough to establish quickly and thrive in Bay Village’s suburban environment. Plantings are scheduled for early spring, providing optimal conditions for the trees to develop strong roots before the summer heat.
In addition to planting, the BVTC provides a weekly slow-drip watering bag and a protective tree guard, giving each tree the best possible start. Homeowners are responsible for collaborating with the BVTC to determine the best location for planting in their yard and committing to weekly watering during the establishment period. Beyond that, all logistics, sourcing, and planting are handled by the organization.
The program is open exclusively to Bay Village residents, and interested homeowners must register and submit payment through the BVTC website (bvtrees.org) to secure a place in the planting schedule.
By participating, residents not only enhance the beauty and health of their own properties but also contribute to a city-wide effort to preserve Bay Village’s tree canopy for future generations. Each tree planted represents a long-term investment in the environment and in the city’s character, providing shade, beauty, and ecological benefits for decades to come.
Through programs like the Win-Win tree sale, the BVTC continues to advance its mission of educating the community, preserving existing trees, and restoring the canopy where it has been lost. Residents are encouraged to take part and help ensure that Bay Village remains a green, vibrant community for years to come.
