A 10-year-old from Westlake is making a meaningful impact across Ohio, combining athletic leadership, community spirit, and personal motivation to support a powerful cause.
Caelan Steadman, a student at Saint Raphael School, is listed as the top Junior Plunger fundraiser in Ohio for the Special Olympics Ohio Polar Plunge, based on current statewide fundraising totals. The annual event raises money to support athletes with intellectual disabilities through training, competition, and year-round programming.
An accomplished young athlete himself, Steadman was a member of this year’s state runner-up elementary cross-country team (Division II–IV) and placed 11th overall individually at the state championship meet.

Steadman organized and captained a fundraising team, “Kids Helping Kids,” bringing together a group of friends — many of them fellow cross-country runners — along with two assistant coaches. The group’s efforts placed them among the top fundraising teams at the Cleveland Polar Plunge event, where the youngsters and their coaches plunged into icy water in front of a cheering crowd on a cold February day.
Steadman’s motivation for getting involved is deeply personal. After recently experiencing partial permanent hearing loss due to illness, his goal was to give back and help ensure that all children have the opportunity to participate in sports and compete, regardless of challenges they may face.
Steadman and the members of the “Kids Helping Kids” team reflect a commitment to helping others and making a positive impact in their community.
