Sound therapy and Reiki are two ways that Joy Parrish and Tammy Danilovic of The Normandy Senior Living help the elderly claim their best quality of life.
The two travel to Joshua Tree in North Olmsted each week where they meet with DeForest Ewell, 96, a resident there who – like others – responds happily to music and sound therapy.
“We have used energy healing techniques at the Normandy for 15 years,” says Joy, a Music Specialist. “The great thing about energy healing is it can do no harm. I’ve studied energy healing of various kinds for 40 years.”
Certified in Reiki, Sound Therapy, and Therapeutic touch, Tammy adds a Polarity credential in joining Joy in the sessions.
“The healing energy that these techniques access is all the same – whether it’s Reiki, Tuning fork frequencies or any of the other techniques available,” says Joy.
By finding the best tool to access and channel this energy correctly for each client, energizing, calming effects, and boosting the body’s own healing ability is observed.
“I have found the more energy techniques I learn, the more they all complement each other,” says Joy. “I incorporate Reiki when I use the tuning forks, or any kind of one-one interaction with a client.
“I have seen the use of Reiki and sound therapy calm anxiety, facilitate faster healing, lower blood pressure, and at the very least, as with Deforest, bring about a calm, and a sense of wellbeing, and happiness. He’s always glad to see us. He always says he ‘loves’ it.
Tuning fork therapy is straight forward. All you do is strike a fork and place it near any body part you wish to heal. They send impulses to different organs, energizing these areas into greater health-giving activity.
Reiki is a healing art offering balancing and stress-reduction through hand positions. It is not massage, nor is it based on belief or suggestion. A Reiki session aids in stress reduction and it is almost always a very relaxing experience.
“A Reiki session may help ease tension and stress and may help support the body to facilitate an environment for healing on all levels- physical, emotional and spiritual,” says Joy. “A session is pleasant and relaxing and is most often utilized for one’s own personal wellness.”
