Sweetbriar Hosts 15th Annual USO of Northern Ohio Golf Outing

Bucky Kopf, Mayor Greg Zilka, Fr. Joe PIskura, Seth Shalov of the USO of Northern Ohio and MC Jim Mueller welcomed guests to the annual Sweetbriar USO Golf Outing on Sept. 14.

The USO of Northern Ohio held its annual golf outing on Friday, September 14th at Sweetbriar Golf Club.

The fundraising event was held at the Avon Lake Club for the 15th consecutive year. Both the Legacy and Sweetbriar courses were used in this nearly sold-out event. Golfers included active military, members of the National Guard and Reserve, military veterans, and supporters from the community, civic organizations, and corporations.

The USO of Northern Ohio Bob Hope Golf Outing generated funds for the benefit of the USO of Northern Ohio, which provides programs and support services to current members of the armed services. Major sponsors of the Golf Outing included the Bob and Dolores Hope Foundation, MAI Capital Management, Greenwood Chevrolet in Austintown, Kim’s College of Martial Arts, PolyOne Corporation, Ohio CAT, Independence Bank, Wells Fargo, Halloran & Jefferson Parks, Evergreen National Indemnity Company, Kopf Builders, Integrated Precision Systems, RSV Inc., NoShok Inc., Neverman Insurance Agency, and American Legion Post #339.

Mike Pippin of the Avon Lake American Legion Post #211 plays Taps.

The participants were addressed by Mr. Seth Shalov, President of the Board of the USO of Northern Ohio to kick off the event’s opening ceremonies. Opening remarks were made by Jim Mueller and David Graves sang the National Anthem while the Cleveland Recruiting Battalion presented colors. The Invocation was made by Avon Lake Mayor Greg Zilka and recognition of the veterans was led by USONO Board member Ron Schwachenwald. Before the golfers hit the links, Father Joe Piskura gave the Benediction and Mike Pippin of the Avon Lake American Legion Post #211 played Taps.

After 18 holes out on the course on a beautiful sunny golf day, players and guests were invited to the dinner and raffle which included steamed clams, baked chicken, and side items, prepared by the staff of Sweetbriar’s Legacy Restaurant & Grille.
