Bay Library Nears Opening Date, New ‘Village Green’ Planned

Bay Village Mayor Paul Koomar reported to City Council last month that he was informed by the Cuyahoga County Library Board that construction of the new Bay Village Library is ahead of schedule with completion scheduled for the end of March or early April. 

The date of Saturday, April 30, 2022 is tentatively scheduled for a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new library branch. The date and time will be confirmed in the near future.

Village Green Project

Mayor Koomar also stated that a State Capital Fund submission will be done this March to request funding for a Village Green Project for the area between the new library and Bay Village City Hall. 

With the removal of the existing road, the entranceway would be through the park with a park space seating area. The Mayor noted that councilman Pete Winzig (Ward 4), during his Chairmanship of the Recreation and Parks Improvement Committee, discussed this with the Mayor and has engaged the landscape architect for the library to help with the plans for the Village Green. 

Now that Sara Byrnes Maier (at-large) is Chair of the Recreation and Parks Improvement Committee, Ms. Maier will work with the Mayor for ideas for the project. It will be a proposed gathering spot for Food Truck Fridays, with the possibility of entertainment on Friday afternoons.

City Project Manager Kathryn Kerber is working on the State Capital submission and reaching out to the State Representative and Senator. A few community groups have also expressed interest in donating to the project as well. Director of Public Service and Properties Liskovec and Recreation Director Enovitch have provided good ideas which will be relayed to Council, and there is excitement and anticipation about the project which will provide a nice entrance to the park.
