Westlake Athletic Director Receives Tim Flannery Horizon Award

Westlake City Schools Athletic Director, Nick Ranallo, has been selected to receive the Tim Flannery Horizon Award. The award is presented to an individual who has demonstrated clear signs of professionalism and involvement at their school, local, and state levels in their first two to three years of service

Each year, the Northeast Ohio Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NEOIAAA) selects athletic administrators and other professionals who have contributed outstanding service to interscholastic athletics in Northeast Ohio. The recipients are nominated by association members and honorees are selected by the awards committee made up of members of the NEOIAAA executive committee.

Mr. Ranallo will be honored at the NEOIAAA Annual Awards Banquet on Monday, April 24 during their conference luncheon at SPIRE Institute in Geneva. Vice President of NEOIAAA, Heather Beck, shared that Nick was nominated by Ryan Peters from Beachwood who said Nick stood out because of “his extraordinary work ethic, loving and caring approach and passion for success.”

Westlake City School District proudly congratulates Athletic Director, Nick Ranallo on being selected for the award. Mr. Ranallo began his career with Westlake in 2022 after serving as Athletic Director at Highland High School. “Nick has been a wonderful addition to Demon Nation. He is student-focused and highly organized. Nick interacts and cares for our athletes, coaches, and community. Furthermore, he has an outstanding work ethic. He is not afraid to roll up his sleeves and do whatever it takes to get the job done,” says Dr. Scott Goggin, Superintendent of Westlake Schools.

Under Mr. Ranallo, WCSD student athletes have won conference or league championships in Girls Cross Country, Girls Golf, Girls Tennis, and Wrestling. Virnette House-Browning and Delicia Ostrowski, Westlake Demons Athletic Boosters President and Vice President, describe Nick as “having a calm, focused demeanor and being very easy to work with.” They also say, “our student athletes appreciate his support at their events. We look forward to his successes and are proud to have him as our Athletic Director.”
