The Little Brown Jug has been a treasured rivalry trophy dating back many years for the Westlake and Bay Village High football teams. When Bay left the Southwestern Conference several years ago to join the West Shore Conference, the heated rivalry was maintained by moving it to the independent portion of the schedule early in the season.
Fans still love the action, and this year’s Battle for the Jug brought a packed house to Westlake High two weeks ago. The host Demons prevailed, 34-24, to pick up their first win of the year. The exciting contest brought out the best of rivalries between two high school opponents and is looked forward to as a schedule highlight for both teams. Westlake is currently 2-1 this season while Bay, having beat Fairview last weekend, is 1-2.
