Westlake High will place the name of Massillon Washington football coach Jason Hall before the Board of Education to become new head coach for the Demon football program.
Hall posted a 7-4 record for Massillon in 2014, taking the team to a Div. II regional quarterfinals appearance.
In seven years at Massillon, Hall compiled a 57-25 record and took the Tigers to the playoffs six times. He is third on the all-time coaches win list at Massillon. His 95-52 career record spans stints at Ravenna Southeast, Brush and Nordonia.
Longtime Westlake fans will remember that another Westlake coach – Mike Currence – who started at Westlake in the early 70’s – moved on to become one of Massillon’s greatest coaches. Currence compiled a 79-16-2 record there before he was dismissed under controversy on 1985.
Standing third on the all-time Massillon win list puts Hall in fine company. Tops is Paul Brown himself, who posted an 80-8-2 with the Tigers before moving on to found the Cleveland Browns in the 1940’s.
There is no doubt that the Westlake football program hopes that Jason Hall will bring that same history of success with him to Hilliard Blvd.
Hall will succeed retiring Mark Campo, who led the Demons to a 3-7 record in 2014 but shared the Southwestern Conference crown with Avon Lake in 2012. Campo also led the program to its first playoff appearance in 24 years that year.
