Warm Hearts, Cold Night Meet for a Great Cause
Warm hearts came out on a cold night for a great cause Saturday evening as Fairview, Lakewood and Lutheran Hospitals celebrated their 11th annual Straight from the Heart Gala presented by Community West Foundation at LaCentre in Westlake.
“We would like to thank you and our community for the incredible support, generosity and enthusiasm which has made this gala one of the premier events in Northeast Ohio,” said Anthony Vlastaris, MD, Regional Medical Director Cardiovascular Services, as he joined with co-chair Gwen Print, RN, MSN, Cardiovascular Services, in welcoming guests.
“We would like to express heartfelt thanks to the Straight from the Heart Executive Committee and the Community West Foundation for all of their hard work and support.”
Proceeds from the event support cardiovascular services at Fairview, Lakewood and Lutheran Hospitals, which provides the most comprehensive resources available for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of heart disease.
2014 donations allowed for the purchase of an AED for an elementary school and supported the purchasing of an automatic Chest Compression System for an Emergency Department.
Donations also provided for the opportunity for 200 high school students to become certified in CPR, health and wellness talks and early heart attack care educational opportunities at local schools.
The 2014 Straight from the Heart Gala also helped start a regional school wellness program called MOVment, to encourage childhood activity to promote a heart healthy lifestyle and possibly win $5000 for their school.
A grand prize of $100,000 for a lucky raffle winner always tops the night. This year, Jennifer Erhardt of Fairview Park was the winner, topping the list of 40 great prizes that also include cars, cash, vacations and jewelry. About 500 guests attended this year’s event.
