It was a Senior Prom like no other when Avon High students visited St. Mary of the Woods for a prom that brought the spirit of graduation season to the senior living community on May 15.
Students brightened the spirits of residents with music, requests to dance and an evening of lively fun. Toes tapped, dance steps were shared, and some tears even flowed when prom kings and queens were named.
It was “Some Enchanted Evening” brought to life: One that proved the spirit of community is alive and well in the City of Avon.
This was the third year in a row that Avon High students took part in this popular event.
The “Senior” Prom is made especially significant for some St. Mary of the Woods residents because they had never attended a prom in their own high school days. Things like World War II and the Great Depression got in the way. But, thanks to Avon High and its Key Club, these good people get to enjoy a formal high school outing at last once in their lives.
“We had a blast,” said St. Mary of the Woods Activities Director Robin Hanna. “We can’t say enough about these students and what this event means to our residents. Thank you.”
