Bay’s Olivia Bechtel Leads Area Runners to State

With a win at the Div. I Amherst Regional in the 400 meter dash last Friday evening, Bay High junior Olivia Bechtel will lead area runners to the OHSAA Championships in Columbus this Saturday.

Bechtel captured first in the 400 with a time of 56.37. She also advances to state in two other events by taking third in the 200 meter dash and third in the long jump.DSC_1264-50

For Bay’s boys, 800 meter run specialist Matt Orr will also travel to state after taking third at the Div. II Lexington district Saturday in 1:55.09.

Back at Amherst, St. Ignatius 1600 meter run ace Luke Wagner was first in 4:15 while teammate  Tom Sullivan placed fourth in 4:18 to also lead area hopes in Columbus on Saturday. Bay’s Pete Sullivan also heads to state after taking fourth in discus. Taking second was Avon in the 4 x 100 meter relay (Alec Damasiewicz, Gerret Choat,  Zach Torbert and Jake Bitter).

Last year, Bechtel was 2nd at state in the 400 and 4th in the long jump. She was 7th in the 400 two years ago.
