It was a night of big performances for the Avon High football team as the Eagles hosted Medina Highland in an OHSAA Div. II Region 4 first round game Friday night.
Senior running back Gerrett Choat rushed for 151 yards and three touchdowns, senior quarterback Jake Sopko was 13-20 passing for two TDs and middle linebacker Alex Rimko laid down the law on defense with 23 tackles.
Avon went on to post a 49-20 win and improve to 10-1 overall this year.
Most electrifying play of the night belonged to speedster Michael Nose, who returned a Highland kickoff 80 yards for a score in the third quarter. His breakaway run beat back Highland’s momentum seconds after the visitors had cut the deficit to 28-13. Highland saw its season end at 6-5.
Avon will meet 11-0 Perrysburg at Sandusky Perkins Friday at 7:30 p.m. in a regional semifinals match. Winner will move on to the regional finals to meet the winner of the Midview-Glenville game being played at Avon Lake this Friday.
