Rocky River Presbyterian Church hosted the 7th Annual Alternative Christmas Charity Bazaar on Sunday, November 22, giving shoppers a chance to learn about and visit over 14 charities and 3 Fair Trade businesses in one place.

Donations to the charities at the Alternative Christmas Charity Bazaar are financial contributions to nonprofit missions given as “Christmas presents” in honor of family and friends.

At the bazaar, booths with representatives for each charity were present to explain their services. Shoppers could select one or several charities to make a cash (or check) donation to and receive a custom-designed greeting postcard with a description of the gift’s ministry. The cards can then be given to your family, or friends telling about the charitable gift selected by you and given in their honor! 100% of all donations go directly to the charity and your gifts will be tax deductible.

Avon Lake Presbyterian Church’s annual Alternative Holiday Market (15 years old) was the inspiration and model for this ACCB. Avon Lake members Shirley and Art Hook provided the spirit, wisdom and vision to help the Rocky River Presbyterian ACCB become a reality.

The event is founded on the premise that sometimes the most thoughtful gift you can give someone is a donation to charity in their honor.

14 missions and 3 Fair Trade Businesses were there, including: Malachi House, Cuyahoga County Habitat for Humanity, Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter, The Gathering Place, Laura’s House, Living Water for the World, Fisher House, Shriners Children’s Hospital, Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, North Coast Health, Puppies Behind Bars, SocksPLUS, Church World Services, Doughbe River School, Beadforlife, Fair Trade of Hudson, and SOS Children’s Villages, USA

A great way to start the holiday season with an exciting mission project—to be “God’s hands and heart” and honor loved ones in more meaningful ways.

Rocky River Presbyterian Church is located at 21701 Detroit Road (440) 333-4888.
