Time to fire up your feet!! This is a 6 week wellness and walking challenge against other Senior Centers. Anyone over 50 years old can join.
Kick off date Friday 8/12/2016. Kick off will begin with free biometric health screenings. Our kick off will be held at the hospital in building 2 Auditorium B at 10 a.m. The competition ends on the last Friday 9/23 with free re-screenings which include: Screenings: Blood glucose, cholesterol, blood pressure, weight, BMI, waist circumference
Valet parking will be free, just drive to the front of the hospital or park by the pond for easy access to the auditorium.
Each participant will receive a welcome surprise.
You are encouraged to walk every day and keep track of your steps!! We will help by giving you a power pedometer at the initial screening. So put your pedometer on in the morning and WALK, WALK, WALK and count your steps!
A luncheon buffet will be offered after the final screening and an awards ceremony will follow the luncheon.
Prizes will be given for the healthiest senior center, and individually for the most steps taken, the greatest weight loss, cholesterol loss, glucose loss, blood pressure decrease, and waist circumference loss!!!

New! Roundtable Health Talk Series
UH SJMC Community Outreach Department is providing a new type of health talk, a Roundtable Health Talk Series. Each month throughout the year, we are scheduling interactive panel discussions, consisting primarily of UH St. John Medical Center healthcare professionals, presenting many different aspects of a specific health topic and current health concerns. Information on medication, nutrition and healthy lifestyle choices will be common threads of these talks.
Each roundtable will be held at UH St. John Medical Center on the 4th Thursday of the month in Building 2, Auditorium B at 6:00 p.m. 29000 Center Ridge Rd. Westlake 44145Each roundtable will be sponsored by a community extended care facility. Join us for health and wellness information and discussion, while you enjoy a light dinner.
July 28 – “Debbie Downer, Moody Judy, Gloomy Gus” Has stress and depression got you down? A panel of healthcare professionals will discuss different kinds of stress and depression, coping tools, and humor as a stress buster. August 25 – “Sweet Tips for People with Diabetes” My Mom, Grandmother and Uncle had diabetes, will I automatically get it too? Can I prevent getting diabetes? Dr. Andrew Filiatraut and a panel of healthcare professionals will discuss pre- diabetes, diabetes and healthy lifestyle choices to intercept the risk of getting diabetes. September 22 – “Boomers and Beyond, Am I Aging Too Quickly” Dr. Sapna Thomas and a panel of healthcare professionals will explore the newest research on GI, nutrition and aging.
