Serving Those Who Served: Tri-C Recognized as a Military Friendly School

College Receives Designation for Ninth Consecutive Year

Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) has earned its ninth consecutive Military Friendly® School designation in recognition of its commitment to serving veterans and active military students, as well as their families.

Tri-C received the honor from Victory Media, publisher of G.I. Jobs and other publications serving the military community. The College was designated as a Top 10 school for the second consecutive year.

“Tri-C is and always will be dedicated to meeting the needs of veterans,” said Rick DeChant, executive director of the College’s Veterans Initiative. “Our goal is for the College to be a ‘home base’ for the military community in Northeast Ohio.”

Victory Media created the Military Friendly School designation in 2009 to help service members and their families select the best college, university or trade school to receive the education and training needed to pursue a civilian career.

Institutions earning the designation were evaluated using both public data sources and responses from a Victory Media survey. More than 1,300 schools participated in the 2017-2018 survey; 849 received a Military Friendly designation.

“Our ability to apply a clear, consistent standard to the majority of colleges gives veterans a comprehensive view of which schools are striving to provide the best opportunities and conditions,” said Daniel Nichols, a Navy Reserve veteran and chief product officer at Victory Media.

Tri-C works with thousands of military families a year through its veterans services centers, which offer a full array of support services to help veterans reach educational and career goals as they transition from soldiers to civilians.

Centers are located at Eastern Campus in Highland Hills, Metropolitan Campus in Cleveland, Western Campus in Parma, Westshore Campus in Westlake, Brunswick University Center and the Louis Stokes VA Medical Center in Cleveland.
