A Fairview Park Police officer was hit by a passing car while investigating an accident on I-480 yesterday morning.
At approximately 8:42 a.m. the Fairview Park Police responded to a four car motor vehicle accident on I-480 eastbound in the area of W. 220 St. Officers arrived on scene and moved the cars from the lanes of travel onto the right outside berm. Investigating Officers were talking with the parties involved and waiting for tow trucks. A vehicle traveling eastbound on I-480 lost control, left the right side of the road way, striking two cars involved in the original accident, as well as a Fairview Park Police Officer who was standing outside on the berm.
The Officer is a two and a half year veteran of the Fairview Park Police Department. He was transported to Fairview General Hospital where he is being treated for non-life threatening injuries. Police are not releasing his name at this time pending notification of his family.
