Prescription Drug Disposal Boxes Coming to Tri-C

Installations Come in Response to Opioid Abuse Crisis in Cuyahoga County

Prescription drug disposal boxes will be installed at Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) campuses by the end of January to provide secure locations for the community to throw away unused medications.

Tri-C Campus Police and the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Office collaborated on the disposal box project in response to the region’s ongoing opioid crisis. The Sheriff’s Office will be in charge of emptying the boxes and discarding the drugs.

“We are installing these boxes to help protect our College and the community,” Tri-C Police Lt. Thomas McMillan said. “We want individual community members, students, faculty and staff to have a safe place to dispose of unwanted prescription medication.”

The disposal boxes will be located in the student services buildings at Eastern Campus in Highland Hills and Metropolitan Campus in Cleveland; the Galleria at Western Campus in Parma; and the lobby of Westshore Campus in Westlake.

The white metal boxes allow for the disposal of any solid medication, such as pills, capsules or skin patches. Needles, liquids and biohazardous materials should not be left in the boxes.
