The Avon Local Schools Board of Education will officially vote April 30 to offer a three-year contract to Virginia Fitch as the new principal at Avon Heritage Elementary School. Fitch replaces Jason Call who was named the district’s new Director of Student Services last month. Heritage Elementary School houses grades 3-5 in the district.
“We are very excited to welcome her to our team,” said Mike Laub, Avon Local Schools superintendent. “She is an Avon resident who cares and is committed to this community. She is a highly-skilled building administrator and will be a great addition to Heritage. We used a process in our search for the next principal that included Heritage staff and other district administrators in that process. We feel good about that process and outcome.”
Fitch is currently the principal at McKinley Elementary School in Elyria where she has been for the past five years. Prior to that, she was a principal at Vincent Elementary School in the Clearview Local School District. Additional education experience includes teaching first-grade and also working as an Intervention Specialist.
“I am excited to come home and begin a new journey,” said Fitch. “Avon is my home. My children attend school in Avon and I am grateful for the opportunity to make a difference in my own community. Heritage is a great school and having three grade levels on one campus allows for an even greater targeted approach to learning.”
Fitch earned a Bachelor of Arts degree (Elementary Education) from Muskingum College and a Master of Education degree (Educational Administration) from Ashland University. Her interests outside the classroom include athletics, travel, reading, outdoor activities and spending time with family.
Fitch is married to Adam Fitch (Avon High School Class of 1998). The two were high school sweethearts. She is a graduate of Brookside High School. They have two sons, Colten (fifth-grader at Heritage) and Mason (seventh-grader at Avon Middle School). Adam is a fulltime farmer and works in the Fitch Family farm business in Avon.
