Memorial Day 2018 was observed in Avon the morning of May 28 with a parade starting at the Avon Senior Center east to the Avon Cemetery at the corner of Detroit Road and Route 83.
The parade included many community groups from our area, including Avon Police and Fire personnel.
There was a program once the parade arrived at the cemetery. Participating were members of the VFW Post 7035, Boys Scouts & Girls Scouts, West Side Irish American Heritage Pipe Band, Mighty Eagle Marching Band, Golden Crescent Choir and Mayor Bryan Jensen. The Memorial ceremony concluded with a 21 gun salute.
VFW members then traveled to Resthaven and St. Mary’s cemetery to perform the Memorial ceremony. The VFW members returned to the VFW Memorial to conclude with another ceremony and open house. All were welcome and many turned out for the parade and all of the ceremonies where the VFW members honored the fallen.
