Drum Corps Show Returns to Avon Lake for 7th Year

Local Student to Perform; Rettig Music is Key Primary Sponsor

This is our 7th year! The thrilling sights and sounds of the Shoremen Brass Classic will return to Avon Lake Memorial Stadium on Saturday, August 4, at 7 p.m. for the city’s seventh annual Drum Corps International (DCI) competition. The Avon Lake Band Aids, Inc., in partnership with Rettig Music, proudly present this exciting competition, featuring seven DCI drum and bugle corps from the United States. This year’s show includes Avon Lake High School Band’s own Kyle Burr, performing for the second year with Legends of Kalamazoo, Michigan. Dr. Christopher Hoch, Director of The Ohio State University Marching and Athletic Bands, will be conducting the Buckeye All-Star Band as they perform the National Anthem.

DCI is a powerful, global youth activity with far-reaching influence. The members of these drum corps – high school and college-aged youths – have gone through extensive physical and musical training to become skilled performers, impressing crowds across the nation with their high-energy musicianship and marching. The Summer 2018 tour includes approximately 100 shows across the nation, with the final competition in Indianapolis, Indiana.

“We are proud to bring this high-level, competitive show back to the community for our 7th year,” says David Eddleman, Department Chair for the Avon Lake High School Instrumental Music Department, DCI staff member, and 11-year Avon Lake resident. “This is not your typical high school or college marching band; this is as “professional” as marching band gets. It is Marching Music’s Major League and is thrilling to experience.”

Pre-sale tickets are available at www.shoremenbrassclassic.com at $9 (general admission) and $15 (premium seating), which includes shipping and handling. Avon Lake band students are selling pre-sale tickets with no service charge. If there are remaining tickets, they will be sold at the door the night of the event for $12 and $18. Children ages 10 and under are free when accompanied by an adult with a paid general admission ticket.

Join us this year to enjoy the exhilarating performances of the musician-athletes who perform with Drum Corps International’s outstanding drum corps!
