Avon to Discuss Purchase of Historic Cahoon Home

Avon City Council will be hearing a presentation at Monday’s Council Meeting, August 13, regarding the possible purchase of the Cahoon House on Stoney Ridge Road.  Proposal for the purchase of the home would serve multiple purposes for the City of Avon.

The Cahoon House is one of the oldest frame homes in Lorain County and was built by Avon’s first permanent settler, Wilbur Cahoon.  He and his family arrived in Avon in 1814 from New York and stayed in a log cabin until the current home was built in 1825.  The Cahoons had eight children.

In 1978, the Cahoon House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Mrs. Jean Fischer, and her late husband, Dr. Delbert Fischer, purchased the home in 1966 and raised their eight children there.  Mrs. Fischer still owns the home today.

The Avon City Council Meeting will take place Monday, August 13 at 7:30 pm.
