UH SJMC Walkers Go the Extra Mile
Walkers from University Hospitals St. John Medical Center meet regularly at Great Northern Mall for health, exercise and camaraderie.
The walkers recently finished a step challenge. Fifty walkers tracked their steps and collectively recorded 44,732,019 steps equal to approximately 22,366 miles! That is longer than the Pan-American Highway (19,000 mi in total length), which links almost all of the Pacific coastal countries of the Americas in a connected highway system.
Health talks are scheduled on the second Wednesday of the month at 9 a.m. walks and blood pressure screenings are also offered. Anyone is welcome to join the walkers and enjoy the talks.
Here is the Physician line-up for talks:
- Sept. 12 – Dr. Elizabeth Confalone, Topic – taking care of your feet
- Oct. 10 – Dr. Juan Jimenez, Topic -urinary issues
- Nov. 14 – Dr. Mansi Talati, Topic – eye care
- Dec. 12 – Dr. Warren Selman, Head of the Neurosurgery Institute at UH Topic- virtual brain surgery
Bring It On! The SJMC Senior Walking and Wellness Challenge kicked off last Thursday with 218 walkers participating in this 6 week challenge at the hospital. The awards ceremony is on Sept 14 at noon at Westlake Recreation Center.
Saturday, Oct 27 from 10-12, at UH Avon health Center, a new program called Trick-or-Treat….It’s Diabetes will include screenings, information tables, high tech testing equipment, exercises and healthy cooking demos.
