Busy week for Westlake Police as usual!

Car Drives Thru Westlake Garage

On 9/14/18 at approx.1028AM WPD received a call from an official with a condominium association after they learned from a landscaper that a vehicle had driven through one of the garages on their property on Detroit Rd.  Officers found that a vehicle had driven through the inside of the garage and through the rear wall. No one was inside when they arrived. The car was registered to a resident who reported that as he was driving into the garage, the brakes “went out.”  The male driver was not injured and a report was taken for the property damage. The fire department determined that the garages were not in danger of collapsing.

OVI with Child in Car

On 9/14/18 at approx. 3:36Pm WPD received a call from a concerned female reporting that her husband was driving their 7yo daughter in a vehicle while intoxicated.  Evidently their son had decided not to ride with his dad and elected to stay at the grandparents instead but had called the mother when the younger sister rode away in the car.  Officers located the male operating a mini van on the way to his house. The 49yo from Westlake failed one field sobriety test but when asked to complete a second, asked “why would I continue?”  He was arrested for OVI and child endangering. The mother picked up the 7yo from the scene. At the Westlake jail, the father submitted to a breath test and was found to be over 2 ½ times the legal limit.

Wore Out Their Welcome

On 9/17/18 at approx. 10:15AM, WPD received a call from a resident who was reporting that he had 2 unwanted guests at his house that were refusing to leave.  The complainant added that the 2 females were involved with drug use. Officers located one of the females walking down the residential street. She showed signs of recent drug use and was found to be in possession of heroin as well as needles.  When officers responded to the complainant’s house, the 2nd female was located.  She was found to be in possession of drugs and paraphernalia as well.  Investigation revealed that the complaining resident had invited the females to the house and that they accused him of buying and using narcotics with them.  All three were arrested. The females, one a 22yo from Elyria and the other a 28yo from Westlake were charged with drug possession. The male resident, a 58yo, was charged with permitting drug abuse.

Tattoo Giveaway

It is probably a good idea to give police your correct birthday, especially when it is tattooed on your arm!

On 9/19/18 at approx. 1:05PM, officers stopped a vehicle for traffic violations on Canterbury Rd.  The male operator gave the officers identifying information which indicated that he was born in 1984 but said that he had left his license at home.

When officers could not positively identify him they also noticed that a tattoo on the male’s arm said “Est. 1985.”

The man claimed that he was 32 years old which did not add up to what he was saying.  The driver was arrested for misidentification. He was later identified as a 32yo from Maryland who was on probation there which prohibited him from leaving the state.

When officers followed up with the female owner of the vehicle, she said that she had known the male for approx. 3 weeks and had met on the Plenty of Fish dating site.  The male was charged with misidentification as well as driving under suspension.
