Westlake to Name Jeff Huber as New Head Boys Basketball Coach

Director of Athletics, Tony Cipollone, announced that Jeff Huber will take over the reins of the Demon Basketball program, pending Board of Education approval.

“Coach Huber has been a highly successful coach and the fact that he is an outstanding teacher in our building and is familiar with our students. We are extremely excited to bring him back home,” Cipollone said.

For the last nine seasons, Coach Huber has been the Head Basketball Coach at Holy Name High School. During that time, his teams posted a 138-82 record including 62-14 over the last three years. His team was the 2015 and 2017 district champions and 2015 regional runner-ups. His teams have made five district championship appearances in nine seasons as well as six sectional championships. Jeff was named as the 2016-17 and 2017-18 Great Lakes Conference Coach of the Year as well as the 2017-18 Greater Cleveland Basketball Coaches Association Division II-IV Coach of the Year. His teams averaged 90.2 points per game in 2017-18 and 81.2 points per game in 2018-19. Prior to his stint at Holy Name, Coach Huber was the Head Coach at Lake Ridge Academy where he led the team to the most wins in school history and the first winning season in a decade. He got his start coaching at Westlake High School as the Assistant Boys Basketball Coach/Head Freshman Coach from 2005-2009.

“I am excited about the opportunity to become the boys’ basketball coach at Westlake,” Huber said. “The chance to coach in the same district in which I teach is very appealing. I believe that with the combination of the student-athletes we have, the community support and top notch facilities, everything is in place for us to develop a consistently strong program. I am enthused about the challenge of competing in the SWC and look forward to getting to work with our players.”

Huber has been teaching in the Westlake City School District since 2006 as a Social Studies teacher. He graduated Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa with a 4.0 GPA from Ohio Wesleyan University and holds a Masters of Education from Ursuline College and also holds an ODE Administration license.

Currently, Coach Huber is completing his training to become a Positive Coaching Alliance trainer and he and his wife, Brianne, who is also a teacher in the Westlake City School District have two daughters, Quinn (6) and Tatum (4).
