Bay Police Respond to Social Distancing Requests

COVID-19 update – The Bay Village Police have taken numerous complaints of people using the parks and not practicing social distancing as mandated by Gov. DeWine. Police responded to these calls and when applicable have asked the offenders to maintain social distancing or to cease what they are doing. In most cases, offenders were playing basketball or using the skate park. Officers reminded the parties that all city playgrounds (Bradley Road, Reese Park, Play-In-Bay, and the Bike and Skate Park) and the playgrounds at the Bay Village Schools are closed. Police will educate those involved and if they do not comply they could be cited, though this has not yet been necessary. For more information see the city website at www.cityofbayvillage.com

From Mayor Paul Koomar

Dear Resident:

During Governor DeWine’s news conference April 2, Dr. Amy Acton, Director of the Ohio Department of Health signed a new order extending the “Stay at Home” order through Friday, May 1st.

Governor DeWine’s order to close Ohio K-12 schools has also been extended to May 1, 2020.

In Governor DeWine’s recent press conference, Dr. Amy Acton, Director of the Ohio Department of Health, referenced the Harvard Business Review Study which looks at two regions in Italy; their responses to the coronavirus; and their resulting differences in outcomes. Exercise such as walking, hiking, running or biking in public parks and outdoor recreation areas is permitted if complying with Social Distancing Requirements (maintaining 6 feet between individuals). However, public playgrounds may spread the virus and are closed under this order. Accordingly the following areas are closed. Playgrounds in Reese and Bradley Road Parks and Play in Bay and the bike and skate park in Cahoon Park.

We appreciate your compliance with this order to prevent the spread of COVID-19. While these are unsettling times, the outreach and compassion exhibited by so many of you is a reminder that we have always been a community that truly cares about one another. Continued support of friends and neighbors remains important. Residents needing assistance may contact the Community Services Department at 899-3442.
