Westlake Police: Ad Offer is Fraud Attempt

On 4/6/20 at approx. 11:00AM a citizen contacted WPD to report a fraud.

The Westlake resident received an unsolicited email that purported to come from AMP Energy Drink. It contained an offer to make $400 per week to allow the company to put a decal on the victim’s car for advertising purposes. The victim agreed and soon received a check for well above the amount expected. Our complainant deposited the check but soon realized that things were not right and decided to return the money. He sent a check back to the fraudster before learning that the original payment from the company was fictitious. The phone number and PO Box involved were now disconnected.
