Bay Village Police Make Arrest in Stolen Vehicle Case

On Tuesday September 22, 2020 at approximately 7:25am, Bay Village Police were dispatched to 27000 block of Osborn Rd. in regards to a motor vehicle theft. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the vehicle owner who stated that she had last seen her vehicle, a 2019 Subaru Forester, the prior evening and that when she came out this morning to start the car, she discovered it was missing. She stated that she still had the key to the vehicle, but believes she could have left her spare key inside the vehicle.

Officers investigated and discovered that the vehicle was equipped with the Subaru “Starlink System.” This gives the company the capability to shut off the vehicle and track it via GPS coordinates.

Detectives contacted Starlink and they were able to provide the location of the vehicle. They stated that the vehicle was at 2525 E 35th St in Cleveland OH. Bay Village Detectives responded, along with CMHA officers, who found the vehicle, occupied with a male sleeping inside. The sleeping male, later identified as Jaharri Jones, an 18 year-old Cleveland resident, was taken into custody. Jones was transported to Bay Village PD where he was booked in under a 4th degree felony charge for Receiving Stolen Property. He is currently being held at the Bay Village Police Department as he awaits his initial appearance at court. The stolen vehicle was later released to the owner.
