Bay Heinen’s Looks to Parking Lot Expansion

Bay Village Heinen’s has purchased the parcel of land immediately south of their parking lot with the intent to create approximately 25 more parking spaces.

With industry expectation that curbside pickup will increase, some of the existing parking spaces traditionally used by in-store customers have already been taken. Parking is constrained during peak days of the year and this could help solve that issue. The extra space could also allow for flexibility if they ever needed to expand the store. Fifteen years ago Heinen’s put significant money into repairing the erosion from the creek, should any more repair work need done this would afford access.

“The general concern is what’s the neighbor going to think? In this particular case, it’s not an issue.” The adjacent neighbor to the house purchased is none other than a 42-year Heinen’s employee who is “fully on board” with the concepts.

President of Council Dwight Clark: “It’s nice to see a family-owned business expanding in Bay Village.”

Tentatively speaking:

*Demolish house sometime this winter to allow the land to settle

*Referral to and review by Planning Commission

*Seek Council approval to be placed on the May ballot

The ballot issue would be a request to approve rezoning of the purchased lot in order for Heinen’s to consolidate with current parcel. The vote would have to pass both City-wide and in Ward 2 Precinct C.
