Beloved Bay Teacher Mrs. Ashmus 1949-2021

Marie Sachiko Ashmus, 71, of Bay Village, Ohio passed away on May 4, 2021 with her family by her side. She was born on December 14, 1949 in Cleveland, Ohio to James (deceased) and Dassie Matsuoka. Marie taught elementary school for over 37 years, enriching the lives of thousands of students. Marie is survived by her devoted husband of 47 years, Keith Ashmus, two children, Emmy (Jason) Langley and Chris (fiancé Jackie) Ashmus; adoring grandchildren Brendan, Adam, and Maya Langley; four sisters; and many nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who loved her and had the opportunity to know her.

Mrs. Ashmus taught in Bay from 1974 to 2008. She taught at Normandy, Westerly and Bay Middle schools and  was one of the first teachers in the gifted and talented education (GATE) program in the school district and also taught third grade, first grade, and, for many years, kindergarten

Private services will be held for Marie at Sunset Memorial Park, 6265 Columbia Road, North Olmsted, Ohio 44070.
