Avon Local Schools Names New Heritage Elementary Principal

The Avon Local Schools Board of Education (BOE) voted last night (June 1, 2021) to award a three-year administrative contract to Maura Neville to become the new principal at Avon Heritage Elementary School effective Aug. 1. She replaces Jen Fitch who was named assistant superintendent for the district last month.

Neville comes to Avon from the Keystone Local School district where she has been an elementary school principal since 2012. She has also worked as a teacher in the Elyria City Schools, as well as school districts in Michigan and Pennsylvania.

“I feel honored and privileged to serve as the next principal of Heritage Elementary,” said Neville. “Avon is a community that shows unwavering support of their schools, and my family and I are excited to be part of such a great atmosphere. I look forward to serving the students, staff and families of Avon, building upon the strong culture of excellence that has been evident throughout my experiences during the hiring process. I am grateful for this incredible opportunity and thank you for welcoming me to ‘The Nest.’”

She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Pittsburgh, and an administrative licensure through Ashland University.

“Maura will bring lots of energy and enthusiasm to our students and staff at Heritage Elementary,” said Ben Hodge, Avon Local Schools assistant superintendent. “I was impressed with reference calls regarding her ability to build relationships with students and staff. Heritage is a large, busy building, and I have no doubt she is the perfect fit to lead it in the right direction.”

Neville resides in North Ridgeville with her husband Christopher, and son Colin, 11.

In other administrative news…Adam Castrilla was also approved at the BOE meeting to be the new assistant principal at Avon High School. The Avon resident currently serves as the assistant principal at Euclid Middle School in the Euclid City School district.
