One Team: A New Spirit on Friday Nights

“I got to be a part of something really amazing. After the game both Glenville and Avon football teams met at the 50 yard line to pray. I was humbled and honored to lead both teams and their coaching staff in prayer. God was glorified. Shouts to @tarblooderfb and @avonathletics for being apart of this special moment.” – Nobles Darby IV, Cleveland Fellowship of Christian Athletes

“Be the change you seek.”

The summer of 2020 brought that imperative to life in our nation. But what changes are taking place?

Locally, a grassroots movement spearheaded by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes has been joined by area high school teams to bring the spirit of unity to a higher level in our communities.

It started over the summer when Avon hosted Glenville, John Hay and North Olmsted to a two-day football camp that celebrated sports, faith and fellowship.

The One Team camp carried over to the Avon-Glenville football game two weeks ago as the teams met at midfield after the contest for prayer.

Nobles Darby IV, Cleveland area Director for the FCA, was on hand and remarked,

“This past summer Glenville, Avon, John Hay and North Olmsted football teams and coaches met for our first ever FCA “ONE TEAM” camp. The inner city and suburbs came together to do football and, more importantly, live together for a few days under the banner of unity. Because God made us all in his image, regardless of inner city or suburb, black or white we are all ONE people, and in this case ONE TEAM!!

“Out of this camp friendships were formed and the Holy Spirit moved freely throughout all involved.

“This past Friday, Avon and Glenville met to play one other and this moment catalyzes what was started this summer. God was glorified and there’s much more to come from this story that’s being written…
