On Wednesday, November 17, Great Lakes Honda West hosted UH St. John Medical Center representatives at the dealership to present a check for the Maltby Breast Health Center. The West side, Elyria based dealership raised awareness for breast cancer the entire month of October by showcasing the dealership with pink balloons and other décor. A donation was made for every car sold the entire month of October.

Entering the second year of the partnership, Great Lakes Auto Group’s CEO Joey Huang noted the importance of giving back in their own community stating, “We’re proud to be part of the community and believe it’s important to give back to worthy causes right where so many of our employees and customers live. We look forward to supporting the hospital for many years to come.” Joey was joined by Xavier Pepple, General Manager of Great Lakes Honda West and Amanda Walters, Marketing Director for Great Lakes Auto Group.

The Maltby Breast Health Center at St. John provides high quality, and compassionate breast cancer care while also focusing on breast health and cancer prevention, research, and clinical trials.

On hand to accept the donation was UH St. John Medical Center Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Gil Padula as well as Ryan Cross, Vice President, Institutional Relations & Development and Matt Long, UH St. John Medical Center Development Officer. “Your support further ensures our goal of delivering world class care directly in the community,” said Dr. Padula. “We are grateful and honored to partner with you.”

Great Lakes Honda West was acquired by Great Lakes Auto Group in February 2020 when local auto dealer, Jack Matia retired. Since the acquisition, employees have consistently supported a number of charitable causes through-out the year.

In addition to their local involvement, Joey Huang serves as Chairman of Hyundai Hope on Wheels- a program that raises money for pediatric cancer research. Thanks to Joey’s leadership, more than $1 million has been raised for UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital through the program.
