St. John Medical Center Auxiliary Christmas Luncheon

The Auxiliary of UH St. John Medical Center held a holiday luncheon at Avon Oaks Country Club on Tuesday, December 14. Auxiliary members, their guests and administrative representatives of the hospital enjoyed the event which was organized by members Michele Mastantuono and Sig Senko.

New lifetime Auxiliary members Jack Hall, Kathy Hall, Bill Radak and Marlene Witouski were honored as guests and thanked for their past service along with their leader, Ardis Radak.

The 2021-22 Auxiliary officers were introduced: Michele Mastantuono-Vice President, Vicki Jancsi-Recording Secretary, Sig Senko-Corresponding Secretary and Lisa Gallaway-Treasurer, along with Board members Linda Whelan-Gift Shop Coordinator, Penny Evans-Volunteer Manager and Sr. Kendra Bottoms-VP Pastoral Care. The group was thanked for their time and dedication to the organization by Auxiliary President, Joyce Holod. She indicated their fundraising efforts were restricted due to covid regulations that caused the closure of the hospital Gift Shop several times and limited on-site vendor sales. Mrs. Holod indicated, “The Auxiliary is thrilled that we are able to make these worthy donations to community and hospital departments since we were unable do so in 2020.” She presented the Auxiliary donations to the grateful department managers.

In addition, the Auxiliary recently donated $9,000 in scholarships to high school seniors: 2 scholarships of $1,500 to Westlake HS seniors in 2020 and 3 scholarships of $2,000 to family members of UH SJMC in 2021. The Auxiliary donated several hundred dollars to area facilities for memorial donations this year along with donations of $500 each for gift cards for needy members of the Westlake community and to Lorain County Toys for Tots. The Auxiliary donated its share of the 50/50 raffle at the luncheon to Lorain County Alcohol and Drug Abuse Services.

Fadia Mustafa, Nurse Manager of 3 South, gave a visual presentation by the department staff to thank the UH SJMC Auxiliary for their generosity in fulfilling many of their wishes for equipment. The supplies will facilitate the staff in providing extra care to their patients.

Jonathan Sague, Chief Operating Officer of UH SJMC, led the installation of Auxiliary officers for the 2022-23 term which include: Co-Presidents – Michele Mastantuono and Sigrid Senko, Recording Secretary – LaSchelle Williams, corresponding Secretary – Paul Forthofer and Treasurer – Lisa Gallaway.

In closing, Penny Evans thanked Joyce for her 5 years of service as President of the UH SJMC Auxiliary. Joyce stated, “I am happy to be a part of this organization and again thank the current officers and Board for their time and volunteer work. We would not have been able to present these donations today without their efforts. My best wishes to the newly-installed officers and to each of you for a happy and blessed holiday season.”
