Students in grades 1-2 at Avon East Elementary School were encouraged to dress up as their future self on the school’s first ever “Future You Day” March 4.
Career development is a lifelong process that begins in childhood and has been linked to student success in other aspects of development in childhood and adulthood.
Students were encouraged to talk at home with their families about what they might want to be when they grow up, and then to come to school dressed as a career that interests them. For the past few weeks, students have also been learning about a variety of career options.

Gabby, 7, wants to grow up to be a SWAT officer! Why? “Because I want to help people…” As a family influence, Gabby reports that Grandpa, now retired, served as a Police Officer.
“Future You Day” also coincided with the school’s Dr. Suess Day and the theme, “Oh, the Place You’ll Go!” A perfect match!
Students show their wide-range of career interests.
Meeting with reporters was a highlight of Avon East’s Career Day.
