36 BHS students won 60 awards in the 2023 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. 22 were Gold Keys, 14 Silver Keys & 24 Honorable Mentions. Senior Emilia Ullom won 4 Gold Keys in Art and is an American Visions Nominee, one of only 5 nominees in the Greater Cleveland region!
Bay Village Schools Announces Scholastic Art Awards Winners
Bay High School is proud to announce that 22 students received 39 awards in the 2023 Scholastic Art Awards. Of these recognitions, 17 were Gold Key awards, 11 were Silver Key awards and 11 were Honorable Mentions. The Gold Key award is the highest honor of distinction in this competition.
Gold Key Winners: Junior Gianna Crimaldi received a Gold Key in the Photography category; Junior Laila Florentino received a Gold Key in the Photography category; Junior Mallory Fry received a Gold Key in the Painting category; Senior Emilia Gulley received a Gold Key in the Sculpture category; Freshman Martin Hausler received two Gold Keys in the Painting category and one Gold Key in the Drawing & Illustration category; Junior Danielle Lentes received a Gold Key in the Painting category; Sophomore Olivia McIntire received a Gold Key in the Sculpture category; Junior Annie McMerrell received a Gold Key in the Painting category; Freshman Sebastian Sabre received two Gold Keys in the Photography category; Senior Larson Toil received a Gold Key in the Photography category; and Senior Emilia Ullom received three Gold Keys in the Painting category and one Gold Key in the Art Portfolio category, and Emilia is one of only five students in the Greater Cleveland Region nominated for an American Visions award.
These submissions were entered into the competition by Bay High School Art Department faculty members Thomas Schemrich, Dept. Chair; Greg Hildebrandt; Grace Outcalt; and Dr. Kristen Srsen Kenny (teacher in the English Dept.).
“The amount of talent within this group is exceptional,” said Thomas Schemrich, Chairperson of the Bay High School Art Department. “I have no doubt that many of these students will go on to successfully pursue art careers in college and beyond.”
