Avon High Girls Win SWC Swimming & Diving Championship
Avon High School won its third consecutive Southwestern Conference Girls Swimming & Diving Championship Saturday (January 28) on the campus of Cleveland State University. The Eagles dominated the field again by winning 10 of the 12 events and compiling 498 points in 2023.
Avon Lake High School finished runner-up with 245 points, while Amherst Steele High School placed third with 188 points and Berea-Midpark High School took fourth with 148 points.
Avon’s Alex Downing broke the league record in the 100-yard Freestyle (52.84) and 100-yard Breaststroke (57.66). The previous records were 53.75 and 59.53, respectively. Amherst Steele’s Sierra Dorobek also set a new SWC record in the 50-yard Freestyle (24.75). The previous record was 25.02.

Snowflake Bentley
The beautiful snow falling lately has been the perfect inspiration to read, ‘Snowflake Bentley,’ in Mrs. Szczepanski’s first-grade class at Avon East. Students dashed outside to see the most breathtaking, intricate flakes falling! We are grateful for the timing of this real-life learning experience for our Eagles.
