Shelly Loop, MSN, RN-BC, NE-BC, has been named Chief Nursing Officer of University Hospitals (UH) St. John Medical Center. Loop has been with UH St. John for 22 years in both staff and management roles. She will begin her new role on November 17.
“We are excited about Shelly’s new appointment as Chief Nursing Officer for UH St. John,” said Ashley Carlucci, DNP, MHA, RN, CEN, Chief Nursing Officer, UH East & West Markets. “She brings extensive leadership experience, high-quality patient-centered care, and embodies the core values of University Hospitals.”
Prior to becoming the Manager of Nursing Operations in 2019, Loop spent a decade as a Clinical Nurse Manager, overseeing critical and medical-surgical floors, oncology, wound care and the float pool. During this time, she reduced staff turnover and implemented professional development goals that led to more nurses obtaining advanced degrees. She also spent several years as a Patient Care Facilitator, Charge Nurse, and Staff Nurse.
“Shelly has a proven track record of increasing nursing engagement through education and mentoring,” said Jonathan Sague, MSN, ACNP-BC, EMT-P, Chief Operating Officer, UH St. John. “Additionally, her commitment to compassionate care and patient safety will continue to help us provide excellent healthcare for our community. We look forward to having her serve in her new role at UH St. John.”
Loop has received numerous nominations, including Best of the Best Nurses in 2008, Nurse Leader of the Year in 2017, and an honorable mention from the Ohio Organization for Nursing Leadership’s Aspiring Leaders in 2023. She earned her BSN from Indiana Wesleyan University and her MSN from Chamberlain University. A 2019 graduate of the UH Advancement Leadership Academy, Loop is currently pursuing her Doctorate of Nursing Practice, Executive Track, with the UH cohort at Case Western Reserve University’s Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing.
