Joy filled the air at Avon’s Aquatic Center Park last Saturday as the French Creek Foundation sponsored the community’s Tree Lighting Festival.
There was food, crafts, holiday activities and an appearance from the Big Guy with the white beard and some of his 4 legged friends (Actually, they were horses – not reindeer). And they welcomed on the sleigh a very special guest, Scarlett, a Heritage School student whose letter to Santa was the winner in the city’s Golden Ticket contest!
It was all smiles as a cavalcade of girl scouts, Brownies and other community members led the parade around the park to the tree lighting stage.
Mayor Bryan Jensen and Foundation President Clint Gault welcomed Scarlett to the stage, already packed with high school choir members happily sharing Christmas Carols.
Clint and Santa then welcomed Scarlett to flip the Candy Cane switch and the park came magically to life with lights and music.
The event was packed with community members who enjoyed hot chocolate, pizza and other treats inside the pool promenade. Fairytale Princesses and Superheroes also mixed with the crowd.
A tent housed the contestants in the city GingerBread contest, another housed crafts and the main tent welcomed kids for visits with – you guessed it – Santa and his elves!
