Westlake High School 2024 senior, Jessica Meno, is the recipient of The Jeffery Owen Marriott Memorial Scholarship. This is the ninth year the scholarship has been awarded to a Westlake High School student-athlete who demonstrates strong academics, outstanding character, and a commitment to community service, characteristics that mirror those of its namesake, Marriott – a 1992 Westlake graduate.
Meno graduated in the top tier of her 2024 WHS graduating class and was an excellent athlete on Westlake’s Varsity soccer team. Academically, she challenged herself by taking all college-level classes during her senior year and several AP courses as an underclassman. She was consequently an Academic All-Ohio member.
Meno exhibited a strong commitment to Westlake High School serving as the editor of the school newspaper and senior magazine, representing her class as a student council member, and coordinating activities as the Treasurer of the school’s French club.
On the pitch, Meno excelled on the Varsity soccer team earning 1st team honors of the Great Lakes Conference, 2nd team all-state, and holds the school record for most goals in a season. She also is a member of Cleveland Force Soccer Club’s 2005 ECNL soccer team traveling and representing the club across the US.
“Jessie was selected among a pool of shining Westlake senior applicants with strong academics and athletics,” said Kelly Pojman, board member of the Jeffery Owen Marriott Memorial Scholarship. “What we loved about Jessie, though, is her bright, compassionate nature and commitment to self-love and acceptance. Jeff always looked for the positives in others and Jessie exhibited similar behavior throughout her high school career. This resonated with the selection committee and we could not be prouder of our 2024 recipient!”
Meno will attend Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida in the Fall of 2024 and continue her athletic career as a member of the University’s soccer team.
The Jeffery Owen Marriott Memorial Scholarship Foundation is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization, established in 2016 to honor the life and contributions of Westlake High School 1992 graduate, Jeffery Marriott. The foundation annually awards a scholarship to one deserving Westlake High School graduate who exemplifies Jeff’s character, principles, ambition, and drive.
