CORRECTION: Friends of Porter Library Install Final Bricks at WPPL

The final 36 bricks in the walkway around the Friends Pavilion at Westlake Porter Public Library were installed on May 23, 2024. The Friends of Porter Public Library began brick sales in November 2022, at the organization’s 50th Anniversary party. The first round of pavers was installed after the completion of the Friends Pavilion, with other rounds being placed in May, June and September 2023.

The project resulted in sales of over 300 bricks, many in memory or honor of loved ones, with some thanking veterans for their service, proposing marriage, or celebrating reading and the library. In addition, it netted over $22,000, which, like all funds raised by the Friends of Porter Public Library, will eventually support library programs and services, such as the Summer Library Challenge.

“This project would not have been as successful as it was without the support and generosity of this community. The Friends and the library’s staff and Board are very grateful,” said Friends’ Board Vice President Jennifer Cirincione.

In addition, the Friends are planning four events coming up later this year:

• Magician Rick Smith, Jr. will perform at the Pavilion on Sunday, August 11 from 3-3:45 p.m. In addition, the Kona Ice Truck will be onsite from 2:45-5 p.m.
• “Plate it Forward” fundraiser at Houlihan’s on Thursday, September 19 from 5-9 p.m. Dine Out and raise funds for the library! The Friends will receive 15% of all food proceeds from that evening.
• Fall Fest on Saturday, October 5 at the Pavilion
• A Christmas event for children on December 1 featuring snacks with Santa
