Once-in-a-century storms blew through our communities two weeks ago, causing damage and bringing loss to many in the area.
Fortunately, there are no reports of loss of life or injuries related to the five (!) tornadoes that touched down in Bay Village, Avon Lake, Westlake and surrounding communities.
The clean-up is now upon us. Roads, closed for days, are now reopened and power is back on.
The biggest story in the aftermath is how folks came together in this challenge.
As stated by Avon Lake resident Jennifer Negulescu on the City of Avon Lake Facebook site: “To the churches, businesses and residents who used money from their own pockets to feed the community, offer their homes to strangers to do laundry, use their freezers, charge devices, give out ice, etc, you deserve the biggest thank you! That was done not because it’s your job but because you cared enough to step up and help others when they were in need. It was a beautiful thing to see the residents of this community come together like they did.”
- Thank you to the power companies that came from as far as Alabama
- The big and small businesses that opened their doors for air conditioning and power outlets
- Home Depot in Rocky River who set up tables with charging stations, water and snacks
- Giant Eagle who gave out water and ice
- Planet Fitness who made their restrooms and locker rooms available
- Thyme x Table who held a free neighborhood BBQ, and Smokin’ Rock & Roll who donated free meals
- Pizza by Robert who donated bagged lunches
- Neighbors who donated food and drinks
These are just the few examples of those reported to us here at The Villager. We know there are so many others we don’t even know about.
