Mercy Health VP of Nursing Recognized by Becker’s Hospital Review

Milagros Castillo, MSN, RN, Named to 2024 “Hispanic and Latino Leaders to Know” List

Mercy Health VP of Nursing Milagros “Millie” Castillo, MSN, RN, was recently named to Becker’s Hospital Review 2024 edition of its “Hispanic and Latino leaders to know” list.

Diverse leadership infuses health care organizations with more nuanced perspectives and allows for a better understanding of patients and staff. The Hispanic and Latino leaders honored in this list are recognized for working relentlessly to drive their organizations and communities forward. The list celebrates these leaders for their commitment to the health care field, and the ways in which they contribute to health care organizations, programs and partnerships that promote health equity and inclusion.

Millie serves as the Vice President of Nursing for Mercy Health – Lorain Hospital and Mercy Health – Allen Hospital. Millie is a collaborative and committed bilingual nursing leader with more than a decade of leadership experience, as well many years serving at the patient bedside. As a nursing leader, she oversees multiple nursing units and has a successful track record of ensuring alignment of quality, patient safety, and patient satisfaction. Millie serves on the YWCA of Elyria Board of Directors and the Lorain County Corrections Planning Board. She also serves on several hospital committees including the Diversity and Inclusion Committee, Human Trafficking Committee, Quality and Safety Committee, Emergency Preparedness Committee, Falls Prevention Committee, and Infection Control Committee. Additionally, Millie led a specialty committee aimed at creating compassionate strategies to ensure inclusivity of patients from the Hispanic and Latino populations within Lorain County.

Prior to her role as Vice President of Nursing, Millie served Mercy Health as the Director of Nursing Services for Mercy Health – Lorain. She has more than six years of experience managing a staff of more than 200 employees, serving as the nurse leader of several Med/Surg units including Med/Surg Oncology, COVID, Observation, Ortho/Neuro, and Resource Pool. She also served as Co-Manager of the Staffing Office and Hospital House Supervisors, where she was responsible for workflow development, clinical operations, and managing a budget of nearly $3 million.
