The Cleveland West Conference rival matchup, Westlake vs Bay, historically guarantees a competitive contest and it was not to disappoint, as the home Demons held on to a hard fought 72-67 victory last Friday.
The intensity was felt from the tipoff, as both teams jockeyed for the initial momentum. However, neither was willing to give in, as each squad went on mini runs that left Westlake clinging to a 38-36 lead at the half.
The second half started with Westlake jumping out to an early 7-point advantage but the Rockets fired back on a run of their own, leading by one at the end of three quarters.
The final quarter proved to be too much for the visitors, as Westlake turned up the heat and “the Rockets red glare” were extinguished 72-67.
- Evan Hargett of Westlake goes high for a bucket against Bay.
- Westlake’s Ryan Turk chargers the glass as he led Westlake with 25 points over Bay.
- Westlake’s height advantage made a difference in Friday’s win over Bay.
Key Performances for Westlake
Ryan Turk – The junior captain was an offensive weapon that Bay had little answers for as he tallied 25 points on the night.
Andrew Wallenhorst – The senior captain seemed to come up with the big shot or tough defensive stop just when it was needed scoring 21 in the process.
Hayden Purdy – The junior scored 10 big points, with all of them coming in the second half. Also, coming up with key rebounds down the stretch.
Next up; The 14-6 Demons travel to take on a talented Elyria Pioneers team in non-conference play Tuesday as they play their final two games of the regular season.
