In response to the ongoing government shutdown and its potential impact on local families, Community Resource Services (CRS) has announced additional support measures to assist clients experiencing financial hardship and food insecurity.
Throughout the month of November, any CRS client families who experience a disruption to their SNAP benefits will be offered a second food pickup. This extra distribution will include a typical variety of pantry items to help supplement household needs during this challenging period.
“We understand that the government shutdown may be creating financial stress for many families in our community,” said Ryan Virtue, Incoming Executive Director of CRS. “Our goal is to ensure that no one in Avon or Avon Lake goes without food or access to essential services.”
CRS also encourages residents to take advantage of additional community food distributions that may be organized by local partners (i.e. Second Harvest) in the coming weeks.
In addition to food support, CRS is reminding community members that the organization provides emergency financial assistance to qualified Avon or Avon Lake residents, to help cover essential expenses such as rent, utilities, and other basic needs.
CRS is also asking neighbors who are not directly impacted by the shutdown to consider helping support those less fortunate by making a monetary donation to CRS. Even a gift made earlier than your usual year-end contribution can make a meaningful difference in helping local families stay stable and nourished through this uncertain time.
