Saturdays, November 1, 8 and 22 (10:30-11 a.m.) and Wednesday, November 5 (7-7:30 p.m.) Family Storytime – Join us for rhymes, songs and play! Ages 2-6 with a caregiver. No registration required.

Saturday, November 1 and 29 (2-3 p.m.) and Wednesday, November 12 (4-5 p.m.) Brick Builders – Do you love Legos©? Then bring your ideas and imagination to Brick Builders! Bricks provided. No registration is required, but room capacity is limited. First come, first served. Ages 5-12.

Saturday, November 1 (2-3:30 p.m.) The Sound of Story: Crafting Voice in Fiction (A Writing Workshop with Nardine Taleb) – In this workshop we will talk about unforgettable voices in fiction. Through readings, writing exercises, and craft conversations, writers will walk away with a better understanding of how their own voice can strengthen their work. This workshop is for writers of all genres looking to deepen their craft or are still brainstorming a project. Ages 18 and up. Please register.

November 2-8 (During library hours) Thank Our Veterans Card Making Program – Honor our veterans by making thank-you cards to be delivered to an independent living or skilled nursing facility. Materials available at the Youth Services desk. All ages are welcome to participate. No registration required.

Sundays, November 2 and 30 (2-3 p.m.) Chess Club – Drop in and hone your skills or learn how to play chess in this casual, non-competitive club. Some sets provided, but feel free to bring your own. Grades 1-4. No registration required.

Monday, November 3 (9 a.m.-9 p.m.) Neighborly November Craft Kit Pickup – Celebrate November with some fun crafts. Space is limited. Registration required. Kits are available through Sunday, November 9, unless other arrangements are made. Crafts are recommended for ages 3-7. Registration begins October 27.

Monday, November 3 (11-11:45 a.m.) Adult Stories and Crafts – Adults with disabilities are invited to laugh, sing and listen to stories, along with a craft or a coloring page. Registration begins October 27.

Monday, November 3 (1-2 p.m.) Meet Author Katie Mazeika – “Maybe Just Ask Me!” – Meet author and illustrator Katie Mazeika, who will join us to read her latest book and host a craft session. This inclusive storytime is for children ages 3-5, siblings welcome. Registration begins October 27.

Monday, November 3 (7-8:30 p.m.) Dating Family Photos Using Fashion Clues – Librarians Chad Statler and Bonnie Laessig show how you can date family photos using clues from the clothes people are wearing. This can be helpful when trying to date old family photographs. Please register.

Monday, November 3 (7-8:15 p.m.) National and Regional Economic Outlook-FRB of Cleveland Economic Conditions-US and the 4th Federal Reserve District – A brief overview of the Federal Reserve System and its responsibilities to the American public, followed by a summary of national and regional economic conditions. Presented by Brett Huettner, a research analyst in the Research Department’s regional analysis and outreach group at The Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland. Please register.

Tuesday, November 4 (6-7:30 p.m.) and Sunday, November 23 (1-2:30 p.m.) Makerspace Foundations: CNC Orientation – Attend an orientation to learn the basics of using the CNC router and become a verified user of the machine. Registration begins one week before each session.

Tuesday, November 4 (7–8:30 p.m.) World at War Forum: The Sinking of the Sultana and 103rd OVI Genealogy – Overcrowded with soldiers, the sinking of the Sultana remains one of the worst maritime tragedies in U.S. history. Join Myra Palomeque and David Ressler, as they tell us about this tragedy. Please register.

Tuesday, November 4 (7-8 p.m.) Application Success for Teens – Whether applying to college or for your first job, applications are something of an art. Abby from Career Savvy with Abby will answer your questions and set you up to succeed. No registration required. Grades 9-12.

Wednesday November 5 (10:30-11:15 a.m.) and Thursday, November 6 (1:30-2:15 p.m.) Adapted Storytime – Join us for this storytime designed for children who may not be successful in a typical storytime. Content is geared toward ages 3-7. Registration begins one week before each session.

Wednesday, November 5 (2-3 p.m.) Virtual Author Talk: Joseph Lee, “Nothing More of This Land” – Learn from journalist and author Joseph Lee as he chats online with us about his stirring memoir, “Nothing More of This Land: Community, Power, and the Search for Indigenous Identity.” Please register.

Wednesday, November 5 (3-5 p.m.) Teen Crafternoon – One Wednesday of each month stop by and enjoy a calming afternoon of crafting. Grades 5-12. No registration required.

Wednesdays, November 5, 12 and 19 (5-6 p.m.) Bow Wow Books – Stop by Youth Services to sign up for a 10-minute reading time with a reading therapy dog. Grades K-4. Sign up starts at 4:30 p.m.

Wednesday, November 5 (6-8:30 p.m.) Heartsaver CPR/AED – University Hospitals – Get certified for adult, child, and infant CPR and AED. Email account required. Class led by certified instructors from UH St. John Medical Center. Please register – class size is limited.

Wednesday, November 5 (6:30-8:30 p.m.) Horror Film Club – Join us for another creepy classic from the Vault! New members are welcome, but children under 13 must be with an adult. Please register.

Thursday, November 6 and Monday, November 24 (1-7 p.m.) American Red Cross Bloodmobile – Please give blood with the American Red Cross Bloodmobile.

Thursday, November 6 (2-3 p.m.) Navigating Interfaces: The Universal Language – Learn the meanings behind icons like the gear and magnifying glass in this interactive program. We’ll explore real-world examples to help you build confidence navigating unfamiliar websites and apps. Registration begins October 30.

Thursday, November 6 (4:30-6:30 p.m.) Elementary Homework Help – Sometimes homework is just hard. It helps to practice with someone who has been through it too. Teen volunteers are standing by to offer drop-ins homework help for elementary students, Grades 1-4. No registration required.

Saturday, November 8 (12–1 p.m.) Slow Flow Yoga for Beginners – Join certified yoga instructor Jen Nebraska for slow flow Vinyasa yoga, a form of Vinyasa Yoga that links the breath, movement, and poses together. Bring a yoga mat. Please register.

Saturday, November 8 (1-4 p.m.) WPPL’s Annual Health Fair – Stop by to talk with area health organizations, receive screenings for hearing, vision, stroke risk, glucose and cholesterol, enter to win a prize and attend health programs. Registration required for the programs, but all other activities are on a drop-in basis.

Saturday, November 8 (1–2 p.m.) Advances in Obesity Medicine – Join Dr. Maryanne Haddad for updates on medical treatments for obesity. Dr. Maryanne Haddad is an Obesity Medicine Physician at MetroHealth Medical Center. She is board-certified in obesity, sleep medicine, and internal medicine. Please register.

Saturday, November 8 (2–3 p.m.) What is EMDR Therapy? – Join Ellie Mental Health to learn about Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), which helps your brain reprocess traumatic memories. Presented by Lauren McGowan, Clinical Director and Therapist from Ellie Mental Health. Please register.

Saturday, November 8 (3–4 p.m.) Managing Arthritis Pain from a Physical Therapy Perspective – Do you suffer from arthritis pain? Join Dr. Gina Croft and learn how to protect your arthritic joints, help with pain, and promote well-being.  Dr. Gina Croft, PT, DPT, is the owner and CEO of Next Level PT. Please register.

Saturday, November 8 (3-4 p.m.) Finger Knitting Fun – Learn how to finger knit while making a simple knitted rope after listening to a short story connecting this skill to literature and/or a greater understanding of our world. Caregivers are encouraged to stay for the program to learn the knitting techniques and assist their child(ren). Grades 3-5. Registration begins November 1.

Monday, November 10 (10:30-11 a.m.) Little Yogis – Stretch, breathe, and move through fun poses that build balance, focus, and joy in this yoga session for children up to age 5 with a caregiver. Please bring a yoga mat or towel. Ages 0-5. Presented by certified yoga instructor Jen Nebraska. Registration begins November 3.

Mondays, November 10, 17 and 24 (3-5 p.m.) Teen Lounge – Need a place to hang after school? Come to WPPL’s Teen Lounge on Monday afternoons. Enjoy some video games, board games, snacks and more. No registration required. Grades 7-12.

Monday, November 10 (7-8 p.m.) Earth “kind” Meetup Group – Meet with other veg/plant-based- curious individuals to discover new flavors, new foods and more ways to be kind to yourselves and to our earth. This group will meet most months on the second Monday of the month. Various topics will be discussed. No registration required.

Monday, November 10 (7-8 p.m.) Fire History and Fire Safety in Cleveland – Learn the history of firefighting in Cleveland and tips on fire safety from Mr. John Sanders, docent at Western Reserve Fire Museum. Please register.

Tuesday, November 11 (1-2:30 p.m.) Gift Wrapping for the Holidays – Learn how to make bows, gift-package initials, and other ideas to make your holiday packages attractive. Please bring two small to medium packages to wrap. Registration begins November 4.

Tuesday, November 11 (3-4 p.m.) Tech Bytes: iPhone and iPad Help Session – Have quick questions about your iPhone or iPad? Need help with basic features or apps? Join our Help Session for a casual drop-in opportunity to learn and share tips.

Tuesday, November 11 (6-8 p.m.) You & Me Printmaking – Create and print your own design with the linocut (linoleum block) technique! Adults, please register yourself and list the youth’s name on your registration. This program is for an adult with an accompanying teen or tween in grades 6-12.

Tuesday November 11 (7-8:30 p.m.) Tuesday Evening Book Club (In Person AND Virtual) – Join the WPPL Tuesday Evening Book Club in person or on Zoom to discuss “The Berry Pickers” by Amanda Peters. The discussion will be held in person and on Zoom simultaneously. Please register. If you register for the Zoom option, you will receive a Zoom invitation and instructions by email.

Tuesday, November 11 (7-8 p.m.) Let’s Talk! Spanish Language Social Hour-¡Hablemos! Hora Social en Español – Meet other fluent Spanish speakers for informal conversation. Register to join.

Wednesday, November 12 (3-4 p.m.) Snacktivity – Who says you can’t play with your food? Drop by the Teen Lounge for a snack-related activity. Enjoy the process then eat the results. All snacks will be assembled and consumed in the Craft Room. While supplies last. Grades 5-12. No registration required.

Wednesday, November 12 (3:30-5 p.m.) After School in the ‘Space – Tweens and teens are welcome in the Makerspace to create a project with the Makerspace equipment! Participants must have a signed user agreement from a parent or guardian on file. For ages 11-15. Registration begins November 5.

Wednesday, November 12 (7-8:30 p.m.) Environmentalism Book Club – This month’s title is “Metamorphosis: Climate Fiction for a Better Future” by Various Authors. Please register.

Wednesday, November 12 (7–8 p.m.) Family Literacy Night – Join us for an engaging read aloud with Maggie Eaton followed by a variety of fun activities that foster a love of reading and support literacy for the whole family. Grades K-3. Registration begins November 5.

Thursday, November 13 (5-6 p.m.) Social Hour for Teens with Autism – This social hour is a safe and fun space for teens and young adults with autism who are currently enrolled in high school to meet and hang out! There will be snacks and games. We are pleased to partner with the Cuyahoga Board of Developmental Disabilities as a Library Facilitator location. WPPL thanks the Cuyahoga County Board of DD for their grant to accomplish a year of inclusive programming. No registration required.

Thursday, November 13 (6:30-8 p.m.) Feeding Foundations: Building Confident Eaters – Esther Verbovsky and Nikki Rotshtein of The Star Center Foundation will guide parents through the key milestones of feeding development, bust common myths, and lay the foundation for confident, joyful eaters. Registration begins November 6.

Thursday, November 13 (7-8 p.m.) Thursday Night Book Discussion – This month’s title is “Wild Dark Shore” by Charlotte McConaghy. A limited number of copies will be available at the Circulation Desk. No registration required.

Thursday, November 13 (7-8 p.m.) Virtual Author Talk: Amanda Peters, “The Berry Pickers” – Join us online for a conversation with the author of “The Berry Pickers.” And a tender short story collection, “Waiting for the Long Night Moon: Stories.” Please register.

Saturday, November 15 (10 a.m.-2 p.m.) ACT Practice Test: Online Version – Want to get in some practice before taking the ACT? Sylvan Learning will be here to simulate the exact environment for taking the online ACT. Bring your own calculator and a #2 pencil. Grades 8-12. Registration begins November 8.

Saturday, November 15 (11-11:45 a.m.) Adapted Weekend Fun – Let’s have fun together in an interactive program especially for children who may not be successful in a typical library program. In each session we may explore toys, sensory elements, music and movement, or do a craft. This month’s theme is Bubbles! For children ages 5 and up. Registration begins November 8.

Saturday, November 15 (2-4 p.m.) Make It, Take It! – Stop by Youth Services to complete a featured craft. While supplies last. No registration required. Not available for pickup at the drive-up window. PreK-grade 2.

Saturday, November 15 (4-5:30 p.m.) Women in History Presents Jackie Kennedy Onassis – Jackie Kennedy brought a sense of style and grace to the White House as wife to President John F. Kennedy. Women in History brings to life the story of Jackie Kennedy and her time in the White House and after. Please register.

Sunday, November 16 (2-3 p.m.) Art Smarts – Explore the works of a well-known artist and then use what you’ve seen to create an art piece of your own! This month’s focus is Edvard Munch. Grades 4-6. Registration begins November 9.

Monday, November 17 (10-10:30 a.m.) Music Monday – Develop pre-reading skills with music, movement and rhythm through stories, songs and rhymes. Ages 2-6 with a caregiver, siblings welcome. No registration required.

Monday, November 17 (1-2 p.m.) True Crime Book Club – This month’s title is “Long Haul,” by Frank Figliuzzi. Please register.

Monday, November 17 (4:30-5:15 p.m.) Tinkering with Tinkercad – Explore 3D design with Tinkercad! Learn the basics, start a project, and return to the Makerspace later to finish. No printing during the session. Grades 3-6. Registration begins November 10.

Monday, November 17 (6-8 p.m.) Jewelry Junction: Holiday Necklace and Earrings – Celebrate the holidays by making a holiday-themed necklace and matching silver- or gold-plated earrings using holiday colors and charms. Registration begins November 10.

Tuesday, November 18 (2-3 p.m.) Virtual Author Talk: Charles Duhigg –“Supercommunicators” – Author of the bestselling books “The Power of Habit” and “Smarter Faster Better,” presents the ultimate guide on how to communicate and connect with anyone at work, home, and in life in his latest work, “Supercommunicators: How to Unlock the Secret Language of Connection.” Please register.

Tuesday, November 18 (3-4 p.m.) Tech Bytes: Android Help Session – Have quick questions about your Android device? Need help with basic features or navigation? Join our Help Session for a casual drop-in opportunity to learn and share tips! No registration required.

Tuesday, November 18 (6-8 p.m.) Craft Club – Join us at our craft club meeting! Bring a craft and hang out with members of the community. All crafts and skill levels welcome. No registration required.

Tuesday, November 18 (6-8:30 p.m.) Teen Scene Movie Night – Elphaba, a young woman ridiculed for her green skin, and Glinda, a popular girl, become friends at Shiz University in the Land of Oz. After an encounter with the Wonderful Wizard of Oz, their friendship reaches a crossroads. Bring your friends to rewatch this fan-favorite film before the sequel comes to theaters. Wednesday, November 19 (2-3 p.m.) Wednesday Afternoon Book Discussion – The Wednesday Book Group meets the third Wednesday of each month. This month’s title is “The Frozen River” by Ariel Lawhon. No registration required.

Wednesday, November 19 (7–8 p.m.) Adult Creative Writing Group: Gratitude Edition – Join us for an hour of writing prompts to inspire you to keep writing. Creativity is more than putting pen to paper. It’s about breaking away and trying something new! For adults and teens age 16 and up. Please register.

Thursday, November 20 (10-11:30 a.m.) Nonprofit Best Practices: Nonprofit Fundraising – The program will feature an overview of the current fundraising environment, and introduction to current fundraising planning, and an overview of Candid resources. Presented by David Holmes of Candid. Part of the Nonprofit Best Practices Series. Please register.

Thursday, November 20 (1-1:30 p.m.) Hear Me Roar: Storytime with Strength – This cross-generational program connects patients with Parkinson’s with our community by sharing stories, songs and movement in this interactive storytime. Ages 2-6, siblings welcome. Registration begins November 13.

Thursday, November 20 (2-3:30 p.m.) Holiday Centerpiece – Celebrate the holidays by making a holiday centerpiece in a small gold basket or plastic container using artificial greens and trimmings. Registration begins November 13.

Saturday, November 22 (1-2 p.m.) Pokémon Fun! – This will be a time to view and trade cards, do a craft, battle your librarian, or play a Pokémon Bingo game. Feel free to bring your cards! Ages 6-11. No registration required.

Saturday, November 22 (4:30-5:15 p.m.) Short Story Workshop – Listen to a book read aloud by one of our librarians, learn literary terms, then write a short story! This month’s theme is Lost and Found. No registration required. Grades 1-4.

Sunday, November 23 (2-3 p.m.) Come Play With Me – Open playtime for children ages 2-5 with a caring adult. Siblings welcome! No registration required.
