250 Tuesday Spotlight
“With many raising a green beer today, it’s fitting that our #250thTuesday spotlight falls on one of Dover Township’s earliest taverns!”
The Sperry Inn was established in 1824 by Amos Sperry Sr. as a stagecoach stop along what is now Center Ridge Road, east of Clague Road. The building boasted five large fireplaces and a ballroom on half of its upper floor — quite the gathering place for early settlers!
Amos Sr., a blacksmith and tavern keeper, had arrived from Camden, New York. The inn served travelers for years before the building was later repurposed as a barn and eventually torn down around 1935. Today, the Pebblebrook development marks the site of this historic landmark.
Cheers to 250 years of Westlake history!
